    This renting out of public property is driven purely by faceless beancounters who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

    Quite possibly a few years ago it may have been possible to keep it under cover ‘on the quiet’, but these days there is little chance of keeping such arrangements from being public knowledge …

    Would the cannon-armed Spitfires flown by 19 Sqn (Mk Ib?) have had these covers on the machine-gun positions or were the wings built without them?

    Unfortunately, there is considerable resistance to our work in Pas de Calais/Nord due to the instransigent attitude of the authorities there who are less than co-operative.

    Is there a particular reason for the lack of cooperation or does it vary?

    I remember the aircraft displaying at St Mawgan one year, presumably that must have been shortly after it arrived in the UK as I didn’t go to any displays later than about 1980?
