This is very interesting news, and even more interesting will be their decision of Aircraft manufacturer. Very good news indeed for all parties involved.
Looks like it’ll be a 767-300
Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated! I’ll be telling him the good(?) news later!
I remember it very well. Strongly about the kids TV bit, as compared to whats on these days, Kid’s TV back then was superb. And all those things collected, Tazos, Pogs, Footie Stickers. The music may have been very throwaway, but being a kid in the 90s wasnt so bad!

I believe only routes to the large hubs in the USA that are not already served by the US carriers would work (LAX, SFO). But BA will not ever think about that, they tried LAX years ago, and gave it up. Any LONG-HAUL expansion from a British Airline will probably come from Virgin, and less-so, BD. But thats not very likely. Although VS are launching St Lucia (I think) this winter from MAN.
I would imagine a 777, not sure what series.
Why did MYT’s 767s leave for a year and also howcome they didn’t seek newer 757 as older 757 replacements.
The 763s left to do work for Skyservice over in Canada, where they were more needed than they were with MyTravel, however with the fleet reductions that have happened at MYT, they are needed again.
The 757-200s that were disposed of were very old, and at the time it was believed that MyTravel were moving towards an all-Airbus fleet (which they probably still are), but they kept G-WJAN for the capacity, and also it being the youngest of the lot (with MYT disposing of those 757s with numbers in the sigle-figure range).
It seems the capacity provided by WJAN isnt needed anymore, so it will return to Skyservice and will probably not return.
If I hadnt been working I would have been down to see the DC8 😡
Still, another nice visitor adding to the list of other unusual aircraft as of late 🙂
Didnt Hellas Jet fly from Manchester to Athens before they were closed down? I’m sure they did well on the route (the other alternative being Olympic at some silly time of the night). Would be nice to see them try it, however the bucket and spade market seems to be suiting Jet2 the most, and the Ski Market over winter. It would be a good idea if they did start it though
Is there any more on its departure time tomorrow? As there have been conflicting reports saying a 06:00 and 11:00-12:00 departure. Its my day off and I am very interested in going for a look (should the time be a sociable hour).
Quite a surprise announcement, but good to hear all the same. Glad to hear that the 762 will be up and running at long last.
hopefully it will bring flyjet up to standards ie sort them 757s out!! they need some TLC
The 752s do need some attention, as they have had a few tech problems lately. But I guess thats the same at many of the airlines in the peak summer season.
EuroAtlantic CS-TLQ was operating for Flyjet AFAIK
Nice
Its an extremely sad thing thats happened, and even more so to someone who showed raw and true passion for his job and the issues he believed in. His family will be devastated, and the people who enjoyed his programmes will also sorely miss him. He will be missed 🙁
🙁 R.I.P 🙁
