I was more thinking of the media coverage that lost Labour the 1992 election.

When Manny Shinwell, in 1950, was asked why they lost the election, he replied, “We didn’t get enough votes.” It was true, then, and it’s true now; blaming a few tawdry sheets of toilet paper is the easy cop-out, when the truth is that a political party makes itself electable, or not, as the case might be. There are several people, in this country, who retain the ability to think for themselves.

The words get twisted and warped don’t they. He had access to a ministerial Jaguar and already had one. Big deal.

When questioned about the “Two Jags” nickname, he laughed and said, “Then you’d better call me Three Jags, now, because I’ve got another one.” Got real affinity with the working class, hasn’t he?

Unless you believe in censorship, everyone is entitled to an opinion. My TV is equipped with an on/off switch, which works wonderfully, if there’s something I don’t want to see.

Your whole premise falls flat on its face, if you remember the saying, “There’s nothing worse than a convert.” While meant to apply to anyone switching to a new religion, and how they become an instant bore on the subject, it can be equally applied to someone who is dieting, or found the pleasures of not smoking. By the same token any non-British person (and the colour of their skin cannot be taken as proof positive that they weren’t born here) might be far more zealous, in the execution of their duties regarding coloured visitors, just to prove how even-handed they are. At times, I despair at the virulent views that are aired on this site.

It’s a hobby, and hobbies are not supposed to mean anything, they’re just supposed to be fun. “All work and no play….” remember.

Maybe you should try reading the article yourself, then you’d realise it is the border agency that refused his application, not the MoD. You’d also see he admitted guilt, and then upon realising there were consequences decided he wanted to change his mind. As I said, the guy seems to want us to give him exceptions to all the rules.

Oh, and he left the services because the accomodation wasn’t good enough.

Let me try to explain; I’ll do my best, but some words will need more than one syllable. He was told that, in a fight, he’d broken a man’s jaw (note, no mention of a knife,) so, when accused, he admitted the charge. As it turns out, it was a lie, and nobody’s jaw was broken; witnesses, who said that he acted in self-defence, were ignored. The MOD know this, and have it in their power to reverse the original decision, and expunge the record, but they choose not to do so; this is why I stand by my original statement that the MOD have no interest in the men and women, who serve this country.
