New Zealand’s last two operational F-27s – used for mail – have recently gone to the HARS organisation in Australia and, I think, will both continue to fly under their ownership as heritage aircraft.
It would be neat to see a Viscount fly (I’m too young to have had that experience) but I hate to imagine the funds required to do so.
I’m curious as to what exactly the “build” entails. Someone else asked on Facebook if that meant shipping the built airframe to the UK for completion, and the official TPM folks replied “We’re working on it – bear with us”.
A photo of the single-seater’s fuselage popped up on Facebook last night my time, in Luftwaffe camouflage. Fortunately for those whose religion forbids accessing that site, the photo actually came from Air Leasing’s own page: http://airleasing.co.uk/?page_id=208
“Two-seater Messerschmitt Up For Sale…. ….only this time it’s the proper two-seater Buchon….” So it’s not a Messerschmitt then? 😀
I guess it wouldn’t make sense to buckle them up just for a photo…
“Also worth noting, for what it’s worth, that Pegs isn’t an original Mk.IIB (if we want to start down the provenance road).” – that’s what I thought when I first saw folk complaining about the aircraft losing its history through this conversion!
Great article Elliott, it answered many questions I had and no doubt those of others too. A helpful insight into the thought process of this route over a total new-build or the previously-started frame.
No problem Ant! I followed the restoration when I was younger and always looked forward to seeing it fly, but it’s in a very good home and (from the photos) looks great.
It means no flying, but it looks so pretty!
Ant.H mentioned a Cherub-powered Sport being restored to fly. It was ZK-BMV, however when it passed to new owners they decided not to fly it and it’s now on display at the Ashburton Aviation Museum in a lovely silver and yellow colour scheme: http://nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2014/07/ashvegas.html
I’m sure those in the know will be along shortly, but from memory it’s pure coincidence.
A lovely sequence of photos Brian, thanks for sharing them! Some very moody shots.
I saw a couple of photos of the Waco on Facebook a few minutes ago – I expect our Duxford correspondents will be all over it in short order!
In that case I’ll get onto buying a legitimate copy, Steve. DVD, or is Blu-ray available?
Very cool, and a decent write-up too. Thanks for sharing, Brenden!
It’s a fantastic video which I’m glad is on YouTube – I seem to watch it annually!
I hope the next owner completes the restoration in NZ, purely so I can see it fly after reading about its import and waiting patiently. I was hoping her completion would allow a four-ship of Spitfires at a Kiwi airshow!
It will be interesting to see how the project progresses from here.
Very exciting times for Aussie warbird fans. Great stuff!
And Baz, you may be onto something there! 😉
