I know it’s almost 50yr too late to do anything about it, but I recently rewatched the Battle of Britain film and was struck by how much like a model the hangar appeared when it was destroyed!
The brown-cream Vampire was Pete Zaccagnino’s machine which won in 2015 and had a nasty belly landing last year after a canopy issue (a blowout, I think?).
Lovely! Thanks so much for sharing! I’ve just started a model of Full Noise so I’m always happy to see more of her. She’s been a favourite on the NZ circuit since restoration and the community really got in behind Graeme and the team. I no longer feel like the only Reno fan in the country!
I for one vote for Spanish but expect Luftwaffe.
Re: the Guardian propeller on the Sea Fury. I’m surprised that’s how they went as the re-engined examples in the USA use Skyraider props.
Aww, nothing about the first ever New Zealand Unlimited entry, the Yak-3 Full Noise?
I’m very jealous. Thanks a lot for sharing your photos. I really enjoy seeing the pits. Did you find yourself cheering for any racer in particular?
I asked my wife if she could handle a whole week of planes and she said, because they’d be racing, yes she could! So I’m scheming for race week 2018…
Sorry, I should’ve been clearer: I meant the Racer in The Rocketeer which appeared in a hangar shot as detailed and screenshotted here: http://impdb.org/index.php?title=The_Rocketeer#Hughes_H-1_Racer_.26_Hughes_HK-1_Spruce_Goose_.28prototype.29
I remembered Jim Wright’s project well but, as I’ve been researching some model builds, only recently have I looked into it further and in detail. A stunning machine and, by all accounts, a lovely man. Wayne Sagar’s AAFO website has some amazing construction photos.
I’ve not seen this since I was a child and must re-watch, but I have a question (hopefully) worthy of a resurrection after 12yr:
Who built the Hughes H-1 Racer replica, and where is it now? I was wondering if it’s the example at the Santa Maria Museum of Flight but I’ve since read that’s from The Aviator.

I’m pleased to read that. I was very excited to see photos on Facebook of the Vimy living again.
I saw these on Facebook but thought someone must have hacked your account, they were all credited to someone named Graham…! :eagerness:
I was just about to post that, Stan! I’ve been following along through Bruce’s posts on Facebook. Very exciting for Kiwi enthusiasts!
ctayfor, the RNZAF’s Freighter at Wigram isn’t taxiable – to the best of my knowledge CPT is the only running example anywhere.
Until ZK-EPG arrives for Aerospace Bristol I understand there are no complete examples on display in the UK.
I had my eye on that one Matt, was sniped on eBay by someone from Newport Pagnell. Very disappointing. Was mint in the teak case also.

Mark12, I’m amazed at the price those negatives went for!! Have you ever seen something like this before, photographs or negatives going for such a high price?
Ah but Matt, what use is Spitfire Barbie without her hot pink, flower-roundelled Mk.XI with Ken noseart?
For what it’s worth (the seconds it takes to read this message, I imagine!) I vote for the Spitfire UTI scheme too. Different but important.
I echo everyone’s comments about the loveliness of your return!
It is disappointing to see the Malta Meteor’s issues, but very heartening to hear you and the team are helping and that the Malta crew want to make it better. I think I missed the nastiness you alluded to…it’s sad to read of one restorer knocking another.
