I think the Briggs page must be my favourite workshop to follow on Facebook, although for a wannabe P-40 owner seeing so much in work and on offer can be painful!
I imagine it makes for a great security system! As long as the intruders don’t stand still (according to the book and original film, anyway 😉 )!
Nothing yet on the TPM website or Facebook page.
“Hope the record attempt is captured on film with really good sound…! ” – it’s definitely being captured, Pursuit Aviation (who I keep talking about and linking to) have a T-33 chase plane with nose-mounted Shotover camera for air-to-air (photos here and here, there’s the webcam for the Facebook livestream (also by Pursuit Aviation), veteran air race photographer Scott Germain is there, and I imagine other moving picture cameras too.
“I want the same deal at Dx & set up my lawn chair on the grass runway” – the Typhoon doesn’t operate from water, surely? Seems an unfair comparison.
Not sure if it’s come up before but a US seller has three V-1710s in boxes going for US$28,500 each. I shared it to a P-40 restoration group on Facebook and there were suggestions the one in the photos may be ex-P-39: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALLISON-V1710-ENGINE/282173343603?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
Further to ZRX61’s post, Pursuit Aviation posted this on Facebook about 10min ago:
UPDATE: Voodoo had some mechanical issues during yesterday’s attempt, so Steve-O safely landed it. He and the team are diligently working on it today and tomorrow. We’ll be sure to keep everyone up-to-date as we receive more information about a follow-up attempt. There will be a bit of down time, but hey… that’s the nature of making history! They’re live, I think I just saw the chase/camera T-33 take off: https://www.facebook.com/pg/PursuitAviationCo/videos/?ref=page_internal
Bravo Pilatus. I had no idea that 1) the type was that old or b) it was still in production!
Possibly Challis, however I was raked over the coals for asking in a Voodoo fan page on Facebook.
Hoping for better news on the attempt today :eagerness:
Pursuit Aviation posted on Facebook less than 10min ago: “We are preparing for the attempt as we speak! To be notified right when the Live broadcast starts, click “Follow” at the top of the page. From there, you can choose to be notified for “All Live Videos”. Stay tuned!”
For those with Facebook access their page is here (not sure if you need to be a Facebook member to see it): https://www.facebook.com/PursuitAviationCo/
EDIT: “UPDATE: Due to current conditions the World Record attempt will be delayed until tomorrow. We will let everyone know in the morning about tomorrow afternoon’s attempt and the live feed.”
What a stunner! Bravo to those responsible – she looks great!
Apparently a scimitar prop was tried on an Unlimited racer in the 1990s but wasn’t successful.
Here’s what seems to be the official website for the attempt, confirmed to be in Idaho on 27 August: http://www.pursuitaviation.com/world-speed-record
I’ve just downloaded a bunch from the forum ww2aircraft.net. Free to join and free to download, but at 521 pages the P-40E-1 Parts Catalog may take a while!
Bravo Blue, Pauline and Julien! Those airbrakes look fantastic!
