Thanks folks! The Maritime Quest site was brought to my attention on UKAR, albeit under a different collection – I’ve passed on the links to my friend.
The Reno Air Racing Association has formally identified the pilot in an email newsletter:

Aaron Hogue, 61, Lost in Fatal Crash

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). We will provide more information as it becomes available. Our hearts, prayers, and support go out to Aaron’s family and friends, and also to those in the racing community who mourn with us.
Please watch the press conference from today from RARA Chairman and CEO Fred Telling in the block below [link].
That’s MW376.
A sad loss to the sport, both man and machine. Awful news. RARA had been making a lot of the expected three-way battle between CM, Dreadnought and Miss America for Unlimited Gold.
One very anorak point: MW763 is G-TEMT, a very quick hunt on the Canadian register shows no result for MW376 yet.
It’s great to see something official – well done to all involveed
That’s what I’m wondering, MN138: I’ve been waiting 28yr to see Stuka WkNr.6234 fly…!
I imagine the museums concerned would – have you contacted them?
“Thanks for the picture Zac! Shows the split tab very well, and the broader rudder.” – it was my first time seeing a Griffon Spit* in person and the tab caught my eye, so I figured I’d snap it! Here she is in profile an hour or so later:

*well…a complete one, anyway! My previous encounter with NH799 was at Avspecs in March 2011:

I’ve seen a photo on Facebook of a display board at the show which says it’s newly constructed, but has original parts incorporated. They’re calling it a “continuation” project.
Several videos of the Bulldog from Ed’s EAA chapter are up on Youtube:

Congratulations Ed! I’ve been following your project over the years through Classic Wings magazine and I can’t imagine the elation you must be feeling! What an achievement.
Utterly magnificent, I’ve been following this for years (had the Matchbox model kit as a kid so have long had a soft spot for the type) and it’s been amazing to see her fly again. Congratulations Jack and team!!
Thank you Mark, I’d begun to suspect as much.
Excellent news!
