I know Paul Allen’s looking all over the world for a stuka siren, or parts, or plans.
*rubs hands together in absolute glee*
Yep – Steve Hinton and “Stevo” Hinton went out on separate air tests in the P-40C and Hawk 75
I thought the Hawk pilot looked rather young! Stevo’s only a year or two younger than me but his logbook is rather more full and considerably more exciting! Good stuff, seeing the two Hintons in those machines would be fantastic.
Well, I did see mention of a G-FXII in the “Air Leasing at Sywell” thread!
I recognise Steve Hinton in the shiny P-40, who’s the pilot of the Hawk? It looks like it was a great day out!
G-CBEL looks superb and I couldn’t help but laugh as, looking at the first photos of her arrival on Facebook, I remembered DCK’s comment! Bravo to Richard and the whole team. She looks stunning and I’m sure will be a hit this weekend.
It’s also so nice to see Ilsa the Lockheed at Duxford. Owner Pat is a lovely man and teller of many a great story.
Roman numerals are OK for small numbers.
True but:
Not always the case
Spitfire XVIII, anyone? 😎
I’d forgotten this was the Kindsvater machine. What a transformation!
Also, I hadn’t realised it was so close to completion. What an achievement. Fingers crossed for good weather and a smooth testing programme.
That engine’s looking lovely, thanks for the update!
Hear hear, that was brilliant! Detailed but not dry, engaging and with a couple of very familiar names. Thanks so much for sharing!
Unfortunately there’s not a chance I can attend but I hope a great time is had by all, and that plenty of photos are shared for the geographically-challenged among us.
Thought they had already painted it. Off it goes to Pima then. That will be an intresting landing
What do you mean? The USN-marked Mars (painted last year, from memory) was going to Pensacola, not Pima.
Awesome stuff Rich, even if everything stayed dark. What a thrill!
Taking the lead from suggestions of other types which could be housed in future:
Merlin Manger
Rolls-Royce Row
Chadwick Close
They also comfortably operate the Mosquito (what a great thing to be able to say!) and I seem to remember hearing that type can be a handful during take-off and landing.
There were at least two ex-RAAF B.20s airworthy in the USA – Florida perhaps? – but I don’t know if that’s still the case.
Apologies for taking the thread even further off-track: did the Vimy replica ever fly into/out of Old Warden? Is there enough room for it (or hypothetical future Vimy) to operate from there?
