About the model….I didn’t know the RN still flew Corsairs off carriers.
I didn’t know the RN still flew Harriers off carriers!
Somehow the film released in New Zealand two months ago. My wife and I saw it and thoroughly enjoyed it – I confess to getting choked up when, after the passenger evacuation, Sully was told all survived. The CGI of the A320 was stunningly well-done. The dream sequences really shocked me – incredibly realistic, and scarily reminiscent of certain real plane crashes in New York’s recent history.
I just read the Wikipedia page about the Aeroflot river ditching and found this passage:
“The tugboat’s captain then broke the aircraft’s windshield to tie a cable to the cockpit’s control wheel and proceeded to tow the craft to the river bank.”
Russian aircraft really are built tough!
ZK-ZRO went to Australia for Randal McFarlane in 1998 or 99, was sold a few years afterward and, I think, offshore to someone else in the last decade. Can’t remember where right now.
It made me smile to read about the HH-60G crew interacting with the kids. Very cool.
As far as I remember, the plan was to taxi the Stuka but it never happened – not sure it ever got an engine.
This armchair warrior very much enjoys seeing each and every update on WS788. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to share progress.
That is the one I mean. Awesome!
Lovely! Fine shots, Duxman.

…as in, the original?!
Rather curious to see that over on the WIX forum this topic was pulled …….as was several of my posts and also Peters post ………after we had told people how Reevers played a part in saving this.
What did the WIX mods say in explanation when you asked them? Perhaps they saw things were getting heated and overly-critical and, rather than just step in and ask for calm, pulled the thread completely? An overreaction to a messy thread, rather than anything more sinister? I too was surprised to see it vanish. A lot of Canadians visit that board and I’m sure they were keen to follow progress with this very visible project.
richw_82 (…) Can you update us all on your efforts with regards to KB882 or any other item that has deserved to be saved?
Peter, to save you hunting through the forum, richw_82’s best known for his work with Shackleton WR963’s taxi and potential return to flight: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?102256-Avro-Shackleton-WR963-Project-Thread
Although he can also be found helping with the Elvington* Meteor NF.14: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?137187-A-W-Meteor-NF-14-WS788-Restoration-Thread
Phil/Daniel and I have had words before, but please understand I’m posting to help and inform, not engage in flame wars. I don’t want to share my pitiful excuse for a project to justify my existence/contributions!
*corrected – thanks TwinOtter23!
Good news on pilot and aircraft, Ando. Very good news.
Here’s one earlier thread: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?136136-Hurricane-at-Pays-facility-Australia&highlight=scone
For some reason it never got too much attention here.
I was shocked and awed by the photos on Facebook of the launch – like Cees, I had no idea there was such a substantial hunk of aircraft involved! Very, very cool to see.

“Seen on another forum..(…) in the hangar, along with Spitfire G-FXII in primer”
Exciting times!
