Another ex-RNZAF instructional Devon is flying out of Omaka with Mit Brereton, I have no pictures but the registration is ZK-ZKZ (was NZ1805) and more info can be had here: http://rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/21084/devon-nz1805-flew-today
Top photos, Duxman! PP972 is looking fantastic.
With the worldwide Luftwaffe resurgence of the last 10yr – original and new-build 190s, the 109s and Buchon conversions – the absence of “enemy” bombers/attack aircraft must be quite noticeable. It would be wonderful to see a 111 of some sort appear on the airshow scene. There is an airworthy 2.111 in the US – Cavanaugh Flight Museum? – but from memory it hasn’t flown for a long time.
I do like the idea of a BOB68 “Heinkel”, Daz! Imagine it banking around Duxford’s display line with Yellow 10 on its wing…
I wish I could help the FHC with their Ju87 needs…I really, really want to see one of those fly. I’m sure it will eventually appear out of the blue like the Shturmovik.
I can’t offer any information about the remaining Duxford CASA other than what’s been said on the forum – I think it isn’t going anywhere any time soon, including to a workshop. But I’m happy to be proven wrong or corrected.
Same height, same number of seats, same location, same direction…maybe it was the same one?
That seems a reasonable price for such a great restoration with such history, to me. How does it compare with other Spitfire sales? (I guess there aren’t any directly comparable sales in terms of Mark?)
Thanks JT for a very informative post and sharing these photos! I had always read (and figured) that the belly scoop was an issue for a naval Mustang, that it could cause a pitching-forward issue when ditching. Can anyone confirm this? I’ve seen a very clever “What If?” model of a “Seastang” with relocated radiator to get around this.
The talk of B-25 trials is fascinating, too.
It is an ASh-82 up front. It’s a little disappointing Phildanielmigaceliberator3 wasn’t able to include such info in his post! Hazair Pty Ltd, whose Facebook page he linked to, is an aerial agriculture and aircraft maintenance firm. The aircraft will be based at Albury, NSW, and the owner is a customer of theirs…although I don’t know who that is! All in good time 🙂
There is a great article on this machine in an older issue of Classic Wings from before it flew, it gave a great insight into the work going into it and Don Hansen’s passion for it (and, I think, details of original parts – I’ll track it down tonight and report back). It’s definitely a very cool import for Australia’s warbird scene and I hope the owner has a great time with it! I’ve always liked its colour scheme and, going by the popularity of the New Zealand example, it will be a hit with enthusiasts and airshowgoers alike.
Fouga – apparently Flug Werk sourced some NOS tail landing gear for their builds? I seem to remember reading that somewhere. But from what I’ve read very little – if anything – is interchangeable between the two types and, as Bruce said, they are very different under the skin.
Regarding the snipe about it not existing – at least it’s not me this time! I’ve been following its progress in magazines and Facebook for a while and have commented!
Superb!!! Half a world away I have a monster smile on my face. Congrats to TFC and Mr Hinton! Top photos, too.
I got one, but couldn’t understand the appeal of a semi-lurking Kiwi’s account to any hacker!!
It’s bad enough I saw how cool the tshirt is, now you tell me I could’ve had my name on the door….now that my card is maxed again! What a great initiative, I know the slots will fill up in no time.
I got a couple of project updates recently from the crowdfunding project, I really enjoy those.
Wonderful photos, Simon and Mark12! Simon – your first of the Vulcan is very cool. Thank you both for sharing. Did any WW1 types display?
Darn, my post disappeared.
DCW – lovely, lovely photos, thank you so much for sharing! There’s a handful of Great War aviation enthusiasts who have been following Granddad’s Plane, so these photos are truly wonderful to see. Thank you again!
The scaled Sopwith Triplane is a new one on me, how big is it? Have you (or anyone else) any photos of it in one piece?
And is that a Fokker D.VII being towed by the old army truck? How cool!
I’m with GliderSpit – I had to save it for reasons of coolness.
Top photos PP! I must say it’s wonderful to see so many younger folks watching the “installation”. Certainly a novel way to show off your product.
The idea of the RNHF having a Seafire makes me very excited, even if I’ll likely never see it in action personally.
I remember first seeing photos of VP441 in Classic Wings, and thinking it was a stunning machine. The YouTube clip didn’t help with my “withdrawals”!!
The idea of P9374 sitting on a sales floor didn’t impress me….but seeing her outside in Pen Pusher’s photo is very cool!
And I totally agree, Mustang51 – it’s a shame some of us can’t be there to enjoy it. BUT we have some excellent folks “working” in this forum to give us a pretty similar experience, for which I am massively grateful.
