Hear hear, Geoff. I agree – even if it’s “just” static or taxiable/running, it’s a remarkable restoration.
But given the enthusiasm Kermit showed in the first video, I’m quietly confident it will fly.
That was great. Just great! I love the enthusiasm Kermit seems to have for the aircraft, it’s infectious (although I’m keen to see a former NZ squadron aircraft fly anyway) and it gives me a lot of hope he will see it through.
I did enjoy Tony and Ralph talking about various parts – “you’ve already got that/we already sent it back to you” – as well as Ralph mentioning a quote for work that Kermit turned down…”well we’ll do whatever needs to be done”. Very fun stuff to see.
I’m intrigued by part two!
Also I’ve seen photos of the wing in a shipping cradle, not sure where it was but it was in the last day or so.
Warbirds News has some coverage including a snippet on the other cool conversion for Yagen, the Fiat G.59>G.55: http://www.warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-news/gagens-messerschmitt-bf-109-airborne-again.html
Great news and a welcome addition to the US scene. Virginia Beach really seems THE place to go!
Is that him on PV202? Well spotted!
Quite right Graham – I misremembered, it was a painting of the Army A-4 concept. It was an old desk model of the Harrier in those markings I saw.
There’s concept art online of a US Army GR.1-esque variant in overall Olive Drab and hi-viz markings reminiscent of early Mohawks and Caribou, and I’m sure I read somewhere that Northrop was to be the contracted builder. I’m unsure if the discussion was before or after the trials involving a fly-off between A-4, F-5 and G.91.
I will also be at Woburn. May I suggest that we have a “mini forum” meet and greet at 1030 to 11 AM at the club enclosure entrance – on the “public” side? I will be wearing a black blazer and a Boater with maroon hatband.
Are you bringing any machines with you, Stan? 😉
I’m looking forward to seeing the photos, it sounds like an excellent event is ahead.
Not ideal but not as much of a hurdle as we initially thought. Morale is still pretty high on the team.
That last comment makes me rather happy. Thanks Rich 😎
Rich: have there been any leads on the missing prop blades?
Probably a slightly outdated memory of static outdoor Lancs in Canada. KB882 springs to mind.
She’s being restored to running condition, a crowdfunding campaign was launched this week in support: http://www.gofundme.com/lancaster, news is being posted at http://www.facebook.com/LancasterKB882
More great photos all. Looks like a lovely couple of days! I always enjoy seeing such top-notch photos of lovely machines and environs.
Just a thought but if enough people write a letter to TFT expressing their dismay with Chabbert or people talking over the aircraft then perhaps they might consider those comments. More productive then this surely?
I totally agree. So often forums (fora?) are used to vent dissatisfaction with something for little purpose other than temporary gratification, when it would surely be more productive to email, telephone or write organisers etc? It’s like asking on a model forum “Why hasn’t Airfix made a Such-and-such?”…why not ask Airfix? I understand there is (great) dissatisfaction with a certain announcer, so why not go direct to those who employ him? It surely can’t do any harm, and won’t take much more time than getting to the forum and making a post.
My apologies if the anti-Chabbert posters have already made contact with the Flying Legends organisers and posted their views here afterward.
Rant done, back to pretty planes at a nice airfield.
Lovely photos! Is that Gene de Marco flying both?
Lovely photos, the one of the Curtiss quartet brings a big smile to my face.
Great photos Anna, thanks a bunch for sharing!
Looks like it was an amazing weekend, thank you so much for all the photos. I’m particularly pleased to see the Hawk and P-36 together. Marvellous!
Mark12 – it made me smile to see your first Seafire pic, I imagine that was a special moment. Lovely job with the photo.
Thanks again, everyone! Time to pre-order the DVD, methinks…
Re the Kennet Seafire – I think it was at the Yeovilton Air Day? I saw some mention of that somewhere on Twitter.
