I passed this by on Facebook last night because I thought it was this machine, then today people were gushing about it having its “first flight” so I presumed it was a fresh restoration….one very confused Kiwi!
Great to see it’s flown again and now I’ll definitely need to buy the FL2015 DVD!
Wow, that’s spectacular! I didn’t expect it to look so good. Bravo RAF!!!
On another thread there was a bunch of people being quite vocal in asking why the RAF hadn’t done a heritage scheme similar to the Canadians’ Hornet…I wonder what they make of this?
Wangaratta Ki-61 Tony restoration update
Holy thread resurrection, Batman! But, I hope, worth it.
Kermit Weeks has recently been in New Zealand and Australia, and has posted a picture of him with two of the Precision team on Facebook with the following (clipped by me) caption:
“Anyway, here’s Roland in the middle that did most of the structural work on Jerry Yegan’s[sic] Tony and will finish up the rest before the aircraft is sent to New Zealand to be fitting out for flying. I hope to get a little bit of work done on mine while it’s still in Australia.”
He also goes on to speak of the Yagen Vought OS2U and P-39 projects, but those are subjects for another thread.
Good news for Tony fans!
Gorgeous photos Mr Duxman – gorgeous certainly is the word for ‘CSS. Dad built me the Airfix model as a kid and I loved “flying” it around the house and yard, so it’s great to see the real deal airborne again.
Daniel/Phil and Reevers team: is this aircraft a B-26 or A-26? It’s been referred to here as both. I’m curious, not wanting to make a mountain out of a molehill or cause any trouble!
EDIT: Never mind, JT beat me to it!
Pledged and shared on Facebook and Twitter. Good luck team!
I’m with Errol – a Kiwi very interested in Duxford via this thread, and I also just took a look at your Flickr photostream. Some lovely shots there! I certainly wouldn’t call any of them amateur.
I’m sure we’d welcome it with open arms in New Zealand :dev2:
I have no information, certainly not even a rumour or “I’ve heard/been told…” as to the identity of the new owner/s, but I agree with mustang51 and j_jza80: regardless of where it’s headed I look forward to finding out where SM969 ends up.
Forgive my ignorance: how many airworthy Mk.XVIIIs are there, worldwide?
Dave, I have nothing to offer you except support as an enthusiast who would love to see a second Typhoon. I’ll follow with great interest and chime in when I can! When I was younger I built a model of one and “flew” it at a 1/72-scale airshow…how I’d love to see the real thing roaring by!
Probably preaching to the choir, but have you been in touch with Kermit Weeks about the engines, for information-sharing at least?
I must say I’m surprised the Reevers team is looking at non-RAAF schemes, but the Duke of Brabant machine is quite striking, so I see the appeal. I’m afraid I have no photos or ideas to share, just enthusiasm!
Thanks for the update Phil, I follow Reevers on Facebook as well but it’s good to see the various projects get exposure. The prospect of just one of these projects gets me excited for my fellow enthusiasts across the Ditch, let alone the variety planned! Good stuff :eagerness:
I’ve pledged a little but forgone the rewards – the less money spent on postage, the more available for the Shack. Good luck Rich and co!
Great to see the Blenheim outside under a blue sky! I’ve just started Airfix’s new Mk.I kit with the intention of finishing it as ‘PIV so any/all photos are most welcome.
I’ve joined and I’m glad I did – some great photos there.
