Tried posting but the work computer wouldn’t let me! Maybe it’s trying to tell me something…?
Australian site Warbirds Online has a bit of coverage of this project, first in a round-up of the type in Australia: http://www.warbirdsonline.com.au/2014/03/05/supermarine-spitfire-scramble-in-australia/
and in a dedicated update from April of this year: http://www.warbirdsonline.com.au/2014/04/22/supermarine-spitfire-mh-603-restoration-update/
Just breathtaking photos! What a setting for a maiden. Beautiful.
My most sincere congratulations to all involved. As someone on Facebook said this morning: “Bl**dy marvellous!”
This is just wonderful. From what I’ve read online it hasn’t flown much in the past few years, so going back to the UK – and in time for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain – will surely result in more exposure for this very rare machine. Of course I doubt I’ll be able to get there to see it any time soon, but I have a silly grin on my face all the same for all of you who will!
Congratulations to the new owner.
Bravo, Peter. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your updates here and at WONZ and I predict it will be a valuable resource.
Good on him! A -21 would make for an incredible flight experience. I’ll follow this with great interest!
I’d read of the La-9UTI but not seen it – thanks so much for sharing! Going by the performance of the single seater now with Jerry Yagen, it must’ve been an amazing “trainer”!
Can anyone tell me what happens to the wrecked remains of the original aircraft after a ‘rebuild/restroation/reconstruction’ like this?
I’d love to know this too. Any informed people able to tell us an example or two, perhaps if they censor the serial/s involved?
He didn’t take it, but just nicked it from some guy named Huw Hopkins! 😉
Huw – beautiful photo. :eagerness:
Fantastic news about the Blenheim! I’m very excited for news and imagery of the first flight.
Lovely shots Brian, David and Duxman! I for one never tire of seeing Spitfires, especially such well-presented ones as are at Duxford.
Elliot – beautiful photo.
This is great to hear if true. Regardless of where it ends up I’d like to see it continue flying, but a UK-based Emil would be wonderful to see.
Not that I’d get to see it in person anytime soon, but this forum more than makes up for that!
She really does look great. Fantastic work thus far!
I just finished the Kickstarter email, some great progress! Thanks for sharing, Ewan. Which reminds me, I have to find a model kit of a Beaufort to build as -13!
The right-hand of the above gentlemen is Gene de Marco, seasoned pilot of Old Rhinebeck, Omaka and Hood Aerodrome who is one of the higher-ups at TVAL. Great pilot.
Oliver, welcome to the forum and thank you for making yourself known! I’m well across the world but still excited about your projects. Bravo for wanting to share your machines with the public.
I love following progress on this, thanks to contributing to the project the Beaufort has really captured my imagination. I’m looking at getting a model kit to finish as A9-13 on display – bring on the updates!
