Finally getting to see this film is wonderful, but so sad knowing the outcome. It reminds me somewhat of the Kee Bird documentary.
Thanks for sharing, I may have to watch it again. She was a beautiful aircraft, and the paint work looks immaculate to my eyes.
It is very interesting to me, having been brought up on two later camo Spits (XVI and IX) to see just how dark this example’s paint is. It is quite different to what I’ve seen on the “circuit” and in so many videos, DVDs and photographs. Thanks so much for sharing images of such a rare, well-preserved machine.
TB863 at Hood Aerodrome, Masterton, January 2001. Also saw her fly in formation with Hurricane P3351. Finally got “up close and personal” on the “flightline walk” at Warbirds Over Wanaka 2004. I don’t have the photo handy but every other aeroplane I was all smiles and resting on/touching them, with TB863 it was reverential, non-touching and no smile.
My parents had recorded a 1992 documentary on her then-owner Tim Wallis, focusing on the Spitfire, which I watched ad nauseam(sp?). She was THE Spitfire in my life.
Thanks to the Duxford Diaries of the past couple of years, this Kiwi’s thinking: is there every truly an “off season” or quiet period at DX?
Lovely pics by the way, and that Anson looks almost as good as “ours” 😉
I’m left wondering why this was newsworthy?
As a journalism student one aspect of news I was taught about was that “news” can be something different or unusual. This fits the bill nicely, although as others have said it would be nice to know why the ride was arranged.
For the uneducated among us: the MFT Phil refers to is the Mustang’s civil registration.
When i was younger, i assisted with a company who was restoring a MiG-17 and a MiG-21…
Was it worth it and was there enjoyment from it?
Only the owners can know that i guess.
That is a good point: have you actually asked the owners concerned? I’m sure they’d be happy to talk to you seeing as you worked on them 🙂 Have you any photos of your time on them? Private MiG-21s fascinate me to no end. A bloke here in NZ even tried to operate one around 1993.
Abuse of hospitality will only end up with the banning of cameras and possibly visitors as well. There are plenty of workshops where that policy is in place already.

Amen. Just because we can’t see pics of what had been photographed previously in the UK is no big problem to my mind. All the better to marvel at what has been achieved by AvSpecs when she is eventually rolled out.
Would I be alone in suggesting this thread has run its course?
At least we know more about this than the Stuka and definitely the Il-2, so we should feel lucky 🙂 I’ve seen the previously-posted pics and kept them in my memory bank! She’ll be a beauty when complete, and I’ll have to make the drive north to see her when she flies.
And Phil/Daniel strikes again. “we are told”…”we” meaning “people who visit Historic Australian Aircraft on Facebook”, I am guessing. This hardly news for those who use this forum as I’m fairly sure pics of TV959 at Ardmore have been posted here before.
My information suggests that Glyn Powells Mosquito is not for sale, despite what has been suggested.
Bruce
Not for sale, but it will be going to the UK according to Glyn himself in the latest issue of Classic Wings. I don’t have it to hand – recently moved house – but he confirms the Flying Mosquito Trust will fund the remainder of the rebuild (3-4 years), it will fly in NZ for a further 12months and then move on to the UK.
On the subject of pics, I always like to ask an owner/senior hangar person if I may take photos, and if they can be put online. Generally the second is answered with the first. Images of TV959’s arrival in May last year remain online, so who knows!
“Ive been told” or “I’ve been reading”? 🙁
The wonder of the internet world is how quickly you can now reveal no information !
Daniel/Phil/Liberator seems to be the leader in this race 😉
It would be wonderful to have some actual news about this very exciting endeavour.
I bet you that if you ask everyone on this site what was the first jet bomber, more than half of the people would get the wrong answer
And I’m 99% sure you’d lose that bet!
The People’s Concorde?
My first thought would be to start talking to those in Pakistan who would be concerned, and based on the experiences of others obtaining aircraft from Asia (Peter Vacher and Ray Hanna spring to mind) prepare for a loooooooooooooooooooong process.
I should have clarified I was referring to the first screencap.
Thanks for the helpful comments. And as for the others I feel I can pick realy from CGI.
It is very interesting to see the photo, I would love to know more.
