One of the Helldivers has been on display at the Old Stick and Rudder Company hangar at Masterton for some time now, no idea about the other one.

Fantastic work guys! Much as I love the BE2f based here in NZ, this one sure does have character! Can’t wait to see her back where she belongs 🙂 top notch photos!

The blokes at work are all very excited about these Lancs – we’re aircraft engineers – and a couple have suggested I pursue one for use as a bedroom…..:P My dad’s just feeling let down that they’re not airworthy!

Personally I don’t care how many, if any, stay in NZ – we already have one REAL Lancaster on display in great condition, I’d love to see them dispersed to all corners of the globe if that is a possibility. Do the French have any on display? Argentina? How about one for Poland to commemorate 300 (Polish) Sqn?

Mind you, a couple left in NZ wouldn’t be a bad thing. One would be great to see at a South Island museum as a tribute to Kiwi Bomber Command crewmembers. There is something of a precedent – Keith Park arranged for a FSM Hurricane built for a certain late-60s film to be sent to NZ for display. That has been lovingly restored by a team of volunteers and now proundly stands outside the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre.

Looking forward to seeing all ten lined up together…and seeing how they destroy any of them!

According to the Warbird Registry ( http://www.warbirdregistry.org/spitregistry/spitfire-te213.html ) she is “under restoration to airworthy”. The SAAF Museum’s own website says: “The airframe has been stored and it is expected she will be once again restored.”. I was pondering the question of TE213/5553 last night in fact, and found another thread here ( http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22251 )….which features a pic of her post-crash!

Would certainly love to see her together and airworthy again. The SAAF scheme certainly looks quite fetching.

Are there many low-back IXs around?

I’m not sure if the engine is the trouble – the former OFMC Lavochkin La-9 had the same type and seems to have flown over there no sweat?

Any chance this was the machine that some time ago was sold to the Spanish outfit? A shame regardless where it went, seeing as JIN was the first to fly since the 50s, and was always my favourite.

There’s a spot all right :(….my girlfriend has christened it Clancy!

Apparently one of the Spit’s engineers was heard to report she was running like a Swiss watch 🙂

Any chance those unable to make it can pass on photos to someone of their own projects, so they may attend in spirit? 😉

She performed beautifully! Flown during the main displays by John Lanham, she was taken up for Friday’s Twilight Extreme show by Keith Skilling. Without a doubt this was the best Spitfire display I have ever seen. Starting by coming in from behind the crowd at around 100ft, it just got better.

There was a minor problem of some sort on Sunday meaning the first display had to be cut short, but it was only precautionary and the later dogfight with the Me108 went ahead as planned 🙂 There are some very fine videos of PV270 at the show on YouTube.

ZK-BFR/A1325 is a Be2f, with its original RAF1A up front. A surprisingly quiet machine! It was a real treat to see her on the field, I’d love to fly her. For those who hadn’t guessed, the cockpit shot in my first post is of ZK-BFR’s rear cockpit.

Here’s a link to YouTube, a video of the Be flying on Sunday.

And thanks Ryan, the 504K is indeed original, powered by a Gnome Monosupape – incidentally one of three engines fitted to her over her original lifetime. I also thought it was the AJD-built replica (which unfortunately met a tree in flight last year) due to the scheme, but one of the show pilots confirmed for me it was the original machine. The restoration was a 26-year labour of love for renowned restorer Stuart Tantrum, who flew her over the weekend. A stunning sight, and sound!

The Bristol is ZK-CPT, longtime gate guard for the local aero club. It arrived at the field in 1986 and hadn’t moved under her own power since then. It was only a year ago that the taxi project was initiated, a tribute to Al Marshall and his dedicated team of volunteers. I don’t think she served with the RNZAF, some research shows her to be ex G-41-366/EC-AHI/EC-WHI/G-AMRR.

The Ju87 was built for the 2003 airshow, but unfortunately made an unplanned, unmanned flight soon after due to high winds. A very hardworking team set about returning her to one piece, and we can expect to see a Jaguar V12 fitted to make her taxiable.

Just got an email from Brendon with links to a couple of videos of PV270. The first is TV3’s coverage of the first flight, well done to them for following the project over the years…even if they do use the same old footage of Hawker Typhoons at one point! http://www.3news.co.nz/Video/National/tabid/309/articleID/96461/cat/64/Default.aspx#video

The second is the take-off and taxi-in of the first flight, here’s a high definition version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnJP2B50La0

    Can’t wait for Classic Fighters!

Great to hear of KIWI III being resurrected…about time there was an early-mark Spit in Al Deere’s colours 😀

Brendon invited me over for a look-see yesterday, how could I refuse? 😀 He also gave me the go-ahead to post any pics the forumites may wish to see, so enjoy! I’m sorry for the large amount of pics, but these are the select few of the 150 or so I took that I felt were good enough to post.

I was left speechless, this honey is so original and accurate, it really is a true testament to Greg and the ITL team’s workmanship. This is a seriously good restoration. Even the reflector gunsight – not fitted here – is in full working order.

Engine runs in the coming week, and, barring any serious issues, flight VERY soon after dependent on pilot availability and weather. WOO!

Debut still planned for Classic Fighters at Omaka, Blenheim, over Easter April 10-12.
