The Swift story is certainly true – some aircraft were upright, others on their side and some flipped right over. The Spitfires I’ve heard about were not at Castle Bromwich but a former RAF base that used to manufacture Spitfires.

Does anyone remember the old Staravia scrapyard at Lasham in the early 70’s? I was fortunate enough to get full access to the yard on one occasion but unfortunately I never had a camera with me at the time. The yard was packed with old aircraft like Sea Furies, Venoms and Meteors plus quite a few unidentifiable airframes stacked on top of each other. I also recall Staravia having another yard in the Ascot area which I believe dealt with a number of Hunters.
