RE: Uniteds competitors lobbying against the loan.
Well why exactly did the American people decide not to fly anymore? UA was a badly run airline which was…coping. The American people dstroyed it.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-12-02 AT 12:44 PM (GMT)]Hand – Dassault Mercure! That’s the best so far. What did you think of it?
RE: Part of Concorde tail ‘fell off’
I think a rudder is still an important control surface guys. The ailerons (elevons for Concorde?) just bank thr aircraft, so that it will fly in the same heading, just at a different angle.
The wings’ lift would move the aircraft in the right direction, but they wouldn’t point the nose in the right direction.

RE: Airliners you’d love to fly on
Actually I suspect that most of us haven’t really flown on many aircraft types at all. My list is:
Herald, Viscount, F27, F28, ERJ-145, CRJ-200, DC-9, MD-80, HS 748, J31, J41, ATP, 146, L1011, 720, 717, 737 classic, 737NG, 747-all, 757-200, 767-200, A300B4, A300-600, A310-300, A319, A320, Beech 1900C+D, Shorts 330, 360, ATR-42/72, Dash 8-200, -300.
That leaves so many blanks – Russian types, lots of older Western types, A330/340, 777…
Hands up anyone who has used a Russian aircraft, or an unusual Western type like the Comet, VC-10, jet Convairs etc…!
RE: Airliners you’d love to fly on
I took a few IOM-LCY return flights earlier in the year and they definitely took off at a more leisurely pace from IOM.
I also flew on a Dash 8-Q300 of BA, from Plymouth (ultra short runway). Same procedure! I remember that flight, because there was 2 passengers on a 50 seater! The flight was Plymouth-Torquay (I think)-Gatwick but bad weather meant we couldn’t land at Torquay. So it was an 80 minute flight with 2 cabin crew, 2 pilots and 2 passengers. On the plus side, I had about 4 breakfasts!
RE: Can anyone explain this?!
I was referring to the “4 engines 4 long haul” campaign 🙂
RE: Firefighters strike – a review.
Yes
It’s a combination of personal choice and market forces in action. If you read any of the SAS books, they all usually ditch their army issue guns and buy their own. Face it, work as a civil servant and get dumped on by return.

RE: Can anyone explain this?!
I hope it didn’t cross the pond with only 2 engines!
RE: Airliners you’d love to fly on
B717 was nice and nippy when I flew on it with Qantas earlier this year. The 5 abreast seating really is better than 6 abreast I think.
At LCY, they taxi to the end of the runway, flaps deployed, brakes on, rev the engine to the max. You can feel the aircraft shudder as the brakes can’t hold the engines back. Then the brakes are released and you shoot forward like a cannon ball. At least, on Flybe Dash 8’s! Heaven knows what its like for a “heavy” like the 146!
I would love to do the BA Twotter or Islander thing, if only for the novelty value of my inflight meal being a cup og whiskey!
