RE: Happy Thanksgiving to my American G’s (still early)

What is thanksgiving? I’ve heard about it but I’m not sure what it actually is.

RE: Act now on air safety!!!

Worst in Europe? Not hardly. The usual French strikes must have an affect on French ATC reliability, surely?

Besides, it is not correct to say that privatisation caused failures at NATS. As with the railways, the government starved NATS of funds in the knowledge that it would be soon be privatised and therefore “someone else’s problem”.

Who designed Swanwick? The government. Who awarded the contract? The government. Who decided to throw money at contractors, rather than agree a fixed fee and timescale? The government.

I am staggered by the similarities with this and the debacle in Scotland over the national assembly building in Edinburgh. The same government caused both ##### ups!

Well at least a former prime minister won’t drape a handkerchief over a TCuk model!

RE: Your chance to be a pilot

You have to be 21 to have a full ATPL, and it might be as young as 18 to get the CPL. Someone correct me if I’m wrong!

I looked at BA about 5 years ago though, and they only took graduate entrants in those days, so most cadets will not start training until 21 or 22 anyway.

Well I’m happy to be an accountant for now.

But I don’t rule out following my dream eventually, and I’m curious as to my chances. I wouldn’t start training until my mid 30’s (in 10 yrs time) I don’t suppose, although I could pay my own way.

How would that look to an airline interviewer, wysiwyg?

Surely 3-3-3 is preferable from a passenger point of view? That would cost the same and seat the same number of passengers surely?

RE: Does the Media run the world ?

Garry, the BBC is publicly funded and is mandated to produce “quality” broadcasting, by contrast to other channels which have to raise advertising revenue.

I would advocate a similar approach in other countries – the major network should be publicly funded but strictly independent – ie not under state control.

Having said that the BBC does produce a lot of rubbish!

Well at least MOL has character. Good PR for us accountants! Maybe I’ll pull a similar stunt when someone makes me CEO of a big airline!

I’ve never been on a 777 (I always seem to get lumbered with dusty 747’s) but your diagram shows 9-abreast seating T5.

5 seats in a single row? Isn’t that a bit claustrophobic?

    RE: A310……….

The A310 is a great aircraft, probably the best I have ever flown on. I don’t know why they were not more of a success to be honest.
