RE: Blended Wing-My Analysis!
I think I remember reading something about 777 folding wingtips too. How much weight do you reckon that would add? Also how about fuel carried in wings – is it in the whole wing or just the root area?
RE: Need info and quick pls!
CFM is a 50/50 joint venture between SNECMA and GE
IAE is a 50/50 JV between RR and PW
Read into that what you will!
RE: Does the Media run the world ?
Wasn’t Rupert Murdoch the bad guy in one of the recent Bond films?
There is a blurred line between news and entertainment. What annoys be is people who moan about say, media intrusion, then go and buy a tabloid “newspaper” like the Sun or the Express in the UK.

RE: Euromanx competes with BA
The J41’s are also on long term leases, and not owned outright by BA. According to their last annual report, anyway.
Does anyone know how leases work? Could the lessee (BA) assign the lease to Eastern in return for guaranteeing the payments, or would the lessor take the a/c back and arrange a new lease with Eastern?
RE: Blended Wing-My Analysis!
I just don’t think it would work.
1. It would be a big risk for Boeing. Mulally will face an inquisition at the next AGM if they anounce a go-ahead.
2. Airlines at the moment cannot afford to chip in with the airport redevelopments.
3. What if a single big airport like LAX or LHR decides not to cater for the BBW and concentrate on increasing the numbers of conventional stands instead? At busy airports this would be the rule rather than the exception I think.
4. The artists impression was in NWA colours. At least 2 of the likely US operators (NWA and United) are teetering on the verge of bankruptcy at the moment. Others like SQ and VS have already committed to the A380.
5. Common sense would suggest a bottom-up strategy for Boeing, not a top-down one. They should beat the A320 first, not the A380.
6. If a single example of the BBW is in any incident, pasengers will be very nervous. It would be the most radical step in the industry, more so than the 747 or ETOPS twins or even Concorde.
Not trying to be downbeat, but I’m sure it’s just Boeing thinking aloud rather than disclosing their intended development path.
RE: Blended Wing-My Analysis!
I think the BWB is just an airing of ideas, like the Sonic Cruiser probably was.
Boeing need to focus efforts on a whole new family, bar the 777.
RE: Blended Wing-My Analysis!
Too revolutionary, ie. too risky
Airports would need to be redesigned for the BWB as well.
RE: Cities pics
Sitting on the apron at EWR and seeing Manhattan at night is great too – esp when you could see the twin towers and the Empire State Building in the same view.
RE: Need info and quick pls!
From a passenger point of view, IAE powered aircraft like BA A319’s “feel” as well powered as any other A320 on takeoff.
RE: Russian Flag Carrier Chooses Airbus!
Okay, sorry if I misinterpreted you Interflug. I guess the Russians and the British had similar philosophies, designing for a purpose rather than for outright economy – eg. VC-10, 146 etc..
I certainly hope that Russia keeps making planes, as Britain no longer participates apart from building Airbus components.
RE: Euromanx competes with BA
I’ve heard that rumour too Saab, not sure what truth there is in it.
Also, EuroManx and Eastern are both supposed to be BA franchisees in the near future. Eastern – well, I can half believe it. Eastern and BA work closely, Eastern is a mammoth J41 operator and his acquired a couple of EMB-145’s from BA too. EuroManx…seems a bit half cocked, that one.
RE: First pic of the Cathay Pacific A340-600!
Not forgetting the RB211 in the Tristar days!
RR are usually keen on negotiating exclusive maintainance contracts with airlines in order to tie them in for a decade or so. Anyone know if this is the case with CX?
RE: First pic of the Cathay Pacific A340-600!
I doubt the RR loyalty is a colonial thing. More likely CX have some kind of long term agreement with RR – ie. they buy only RR, in return for which they get lower prices.
I’m sure there are some GE-only airlines too.
RE: MyTravelLite New Route!
Yup, that is a big “no” in accounting. All sorts of companies did it though and they are all being found out one by one.
It’s a puzzler, really. If you make a sale, when do you recognise it? When the sale is made, when a deposit is made, when the service is delivered? The problem of “revenue recognition” is one of the big issues in accounting at the moment. The only really answer available is to be conservative and if anything, understate the results!
