RE: Open Skies
How so?
RE: Sheffield City
I suppose the sensation of flying is more so in a piston or old turboporop, than in a modern jet.
RE: Sheffield City
When I was a teenager I wanted to be a pilot too. Not sure why I changed my mind, but I was quite keen at the time.
I wrote to Atlantic Air and asked what sort of schemes they could offer. They asked me to write back in 5 years, but I was offered the chance of a day in the jumpseat of a DC-6.
What can I say, very friendly company! Their L-188 Electras seem to be very busy too, they’re all over the place.
RE: Cities pics
I don’t find Paris romantic. My fiancee and I are going to Como and possibly Venice in December. Apart from the weather that seems a lot more romantic to me!
RE: The
As a general rule, the British government despises Gibraltar. The foreign secretary even said that the notion that a referendum in Gibraltar should have legal force is “eccentric”.
The British government is responsible for regulating Shipping, Customs and Financial Services on the Rock. Any blame (if there is any) is therefore with the British, not Gibraltar.
It very much suits the interests of the Blair-Aznar axis to try and pin something on Gib and I hope people will not be fooled by this. Please remember that a loose coalition of Blair-Aznar-Berlusconi was seriously mooted as a weapon to fight the Chirac-Schroeder axis within the EU.

Aw come on dcfly, he is nowhere near the likes of those two individuals. You are suggesting that 11/9 is comparable to the Holocause or the putsch, which it is not.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-11-02 AT 11:01 PM (GMT)]Sorry keltic, this is NOT about the US, and I’m not criticising them. I’m just trying to make the point that “human rights” and “civilisation” are subjective concepts. They tend to be interpreted according to the dominant culture of the day.
I should have put it more eloquently, but I trust my point is clearer now.

RE: Euromanx competes with BA
Nothing’s been said Wysiwyg, but the management is local and they are expanding after a successful start to operations.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-11-02 AT 10:38 PM (GMT)]Just a thought, but most airlines bar Easy and Ryan are on the cosh.
By contrast, airlines in other countries are doing really well. JAL has recorded record profits and Qantas seems to be expanding.
Would it be possible to qualify in the EU and then apply to Japan or Australia? I know that in my own profession (accounting) they will basically let you do that, if you spend a year “converting” and put up with the mother of all beurocratic nonsense.
PS – good luck Martin!
RE: Air Algerie starts operations to Manchester
Nice to see new airlines serving MAN, given that it is shunned by UK airlines.
RE: Anyone like osama?
I am still unsure, I mean he has not been tried in court yet.
I know his whereabouts are unknown, but he could conceivably be tried in his absence.
Bland assurances from the Americans that he’s guilty are just not good enough.
I reckon he IS guilty, but I am deeply uneasy (being a Brit) with just accepting this without a trial and the wheels of justice doing their bit.
