RE: RE%3A G-MIMA
The only Beech 1900’s I’ve flown on have been those operated by Zambian Airways. I’ve taken maybe 10 or 12 flights, and they are extremely comfortable. More legroom than a J41 and lots more elbow room. Maybe Portugalia have a different configuration?
Take a look, anyway!

RE: Move To Safeguard Regional
How about cross-subsidisation; surely a lot of the passengers feed on to bigger flights?
Also, BA is increasing the numbers of its flights (I assume so, as they are downsizing aircraft types) therefore there are available slots.
If they are going to stick people from unimportant places at Gatwick, why not build a LGW-LHR express train? The current arrangements are awkward.
RE: BA Vs. low cost carriers!
Yeah, but:
1. BA Miles are great. What’s the Ryanair one called again?
2. BA flies to a proper airport; Ryanair leaves you having to negotiate through cow pats outside some unknown runway.
3. For those of us who can only use LHR, LGW or MAN (and at certain times, too) Ryanair is a non starter.
4. Of the 150 -odd seats, Ryanair will only sell 1 at 99p and 2 at £5. The rest will be similar prices to BA. That’s my experience on Easyjet to AMS, anyway.
RE: Pic of the day.
Ryanair?
RE: easyjet Cabin Crew
What’s wrong with Easyjet management?
It seems like a profitable company.

Just Wait…

RE: RE%3A G-MIMA
J41 is a horrible aircraft to be a passenger in. Not so bad height wise, but too narrow for 3 seats across.
The Beech 1900 is a great deal more comfortable. Never tried any others in this category, such as the Metro though.
On a completely different note – all the BA 747-400’s which I have been on in the last 2 years have not had an air nozzle above the seats, like they used to.Other airlines sill seem to have them. Any ideas why?
RE: RE%3A G-MIMA
Most people don’t seem to be very bothered by the change.
The only controversial thing has been the axing of the LHR flights.
All the aircraft are still in the old Manx decor inside, and the personnel are all the old Manx ones. Inflight meals are still much better than BA! We used to get a piece of chocolate shaped like the Manx flag (3 legs) which was nice.
Also, the Manx inflight magazines used to always feature 1 or 2 people I know – because the Isle of Man is such a small place! I think we will be getting the standard BA reading material in a few months.
RE: Why isn’t Teesside bigger than it is?
The choice of airport by low cost operators has little to do with location. They’re famous for flying to fields a hundred miles from anywhere.
One of the major factors is the airport costs – or more tellingly, the amount of money an airport is prepared to pay to attract low cost carriers. This can be through low landing/parking fees, or through “marketing support”.
Teesside is in a reasonable enough location. It’s only a short drive for most of Teeside and is kind of local for North Yorkshire too – towns like Great Ayton or even the Whitby area.
The low level of activity there probably has a lot to do with my second paragraph – financial incentives.
By the way – I used to fly from Teesside to LHR a lot, when I was a kid. My Dad always used to tell me that the nearby hotel was haunted. Any comment? Flights were BM, usually Viscounts or DC-9’s if we were lucky!

RE: Alitalia decision challeng
In theory, BA are correct. The Alitalia recapitalisation is illegal – the airline must sink or swim of its own accord.
RE: Lets blame 11/9 for everyt
Basically, airlines should employ more accountants!
Our entire professional grounding is to check things (usually by trsting the controls), question things and be sceptical. Okay, ignore Andersen’s for the momenr…the point still applies.
RE: Morocco invades Spain
Obviously the Gib situation has nothing whatever to do with this.
But, the feelings aroused in Spain by the Moroccan action are similar to the feelings which would arise in the UK if Gib were handed back.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-07-02 AT 11:20 PM (GMT)]I’m pretty sure SN Brussels operate the A330!
Looking at it, I’m pretty sure I know why it is such a popular aeroplane.
