RE: Should we have another superpower?
We could have a lot more influence in Europe than we could with the US but as I said previously, it all depends on the EU being sorted out and dragged back into the 18th Century!
The way I see it there are 2 choices:
Go with the US = Become the 51st state
Go with the EU = Become part of the 4th Reich.
Great choice eh??
RE: Any good African airlines?
Ethiopian don’t have a bad rep. But if these things are anything to go by…their 757’s always seem to be very dirty!
RE: Should we have another superpower?
The only viable option is the EU.
But this simply will not happen whilst the EU remains illegitimate and opaque. The democratic deficit needs urgent attention.
Otherwise, popular support will just not be there. The British, lest we forget one of the more powerful EU members, are still caught between the US and the EU and the intransigence of the EU does nothing to help this.
So basically the EU can and will challenge the US…but only when it reforms itself.
RE: Israel vs Palestine
If the Germans had won the Battle of Britian and a conquered British people had resorted to terrorism against Germany…
Is there anything wrong in that, per se?
RE: Israel vs Palestine
Again (sorry!!)
For those of you who watch the BBC – their Foreign Editor, John Simpson has written an autobiography (Strange Places, Questionable People)
He writes a fair bit about Israel…his general p.o.v. seems to be that the senior Israeli ministers are amazingly hawkish whereas Arafat is trying his best to make a deal – his admiration for Arafat shines through.
An interesting and knowledgable perspective.
RE: Israel vs Palestine
Talking of GLORIFYING, INDOCTRINATING, SUPPLYING…
How come so many high profile Americans (traditionally from around Boston and New York) support the IRA??
Rich, dumb people with no sense of reality who like to romanticise terrorism…the Palestinians aint exactly alone in this….
The peace plan which seems to have shocked most of you because of Arafat’s lacklustre consideration…well, “withdrawal” did not mean complete withdrawal, but only withdrawal to prescribed limits. It kind of legitimised the Israeli land grab. To use the Gulf analogy again..
Imagine……Saddam “gives back” Kuwait City to the Kuwaitis but keeps the rest of the Kingdom. And then everyone criticises Kuwait for not wanting peace????
RE: Pic Of The Day-CRJ!
Sure look like 328JET’s to me.
RE: Israel vs Palestine
Can I just suggest a correction to the initial post in this thread; Arafat does not actually hate Jews I don’t think.
I also do not believe that Turkey would assist Israel as was implied – it is really in Turkey’s best interests to see Iraq stabilised => therefore an Iraqi/Israeli conflict would be undesirable.
RE: Any good African airlines?
Not to forget of course, that Inter Air also operate 727’s, as do Comair/BA.
RE: Brekaing News about Kabir
Poor guy.
How about a petition from the forum members – if any of you think this will actually be useful?
RE: Any good African airlines?
I know there is a charter airline based in Jo’burg which operates pax charters on 707-320’s. You can get a glimpse from the ramp, usually.
Air Zimbabwe got rid of their 707’s a few years back I think – replaced by 767-200.
RE: New Jumbo Variant
Virgin have bars – certainly on their 747 fleet.
Only in upper class though (ie at the front of the aircraft)
I mention this as they are shortly to be serving Australia, apparently.
RE: Australia:Defence Review
Like you say, it is unlikely that any hostile nation will invade Australia.
This realisation changes the focus of defence planning somewhat…
RE: MID EAST :PEACE IS THE SOLUTION.
I wasn’t making any point about IQ tests other than an exasperated one; it takes two to tango and I do not understand taking one side over the other.
Sure, a Palestinian state has been offered before – George Dubya even offered it again, post 9/11.
But the point is that the Palestinians do not just want the “cast offs” that Israel is willing to give up. They want the lot. The plan by Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at the moment is for Israel to return all the “recently” occupied lands in exchange for peace. Who knows if this will work.
Palestinians want the land; so do Israelis.
Who should have it??
My answer is – neither and both. Israel deserves it no more than the Palestinians do and the status quo is therefore incorrect.
As has been said, people far more intelligent and learned than I have failed to solve this problem. But the answer might lie in power sharing – a state run for all the peoples of the area, by all the peoples of the area. Maybe under a UN mandate.
RE: How many have gone?
I’m interested in the financial viability of airlines.
I wonder if anyone has done a quick survey of the financial reports of major airlines for comparison? – Balance Sheet strength, cash flow position etc…
