RE: Pseudonyms
I think we’re going off-topic here, but this is a complex argument. Suffice it to say we are obviously in disagreement!
RE: Saab 340
Wait till you get upgraded to BA’s First class – romper suits, half a cabin to yourself…surely BA’s prettiest stewardesses…
RE: Pseudonyms
You must be about the only member using their own name – refreshing for a change!
RE: Pseudonyms
Yes, royals are so much worse than politicians aren’t they!!
(sorry, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!)
RE: TNT to get the Tu-204
Very nice to see.
I am a little surprised that the Tu-204 was not a bigger success commercially, especially with RR engines removing the biggest doubt over the aircraft’s reliability.
RE: 17 killed in Cuban plane crash
Okay keltic, I agree with the majority of your points. There is no doubt that the Cuban regime has lots of flaws; still, Cuba will be naturally reluctant to take what might be seen as a Spanish bail-out.
All sorts of former colonies feel the same; being a Brit, I’ve experienced it first hand in all sorts of places. Even back in the 60’s and 70’s, the government of Zambia refused to allow a British construction firm to build the dam at lake Kariba at a low price; the French did it instead.
But you can’t deny that US sanctions play a big part – in fact, would the US even allow ATR’s to be sold to Cuba? They must contain at least some US (engines for one!) parts and the Americans usually object very strongly to that kind of thing.
It’s obviously because the feel embarrassed at the exploding cigar era!
RE: Saab 340
Saab 2000 production ceased in the late 1990’s.
RE: St. Paddys Day
Zambian Airways have a partally green colour scheme, though only on Beechcraft 1900D’s.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-03-02 AT 10:48 PM (GMT)]I had naturally assumed that Frankvw meant Frank drives a VW…sorry!
I’m a right winger, mild royalist and I am really against the EU. So probably a bit unlike most of the forum members but hey, variety is the spice of life.
Oh – what is an informatician? Is it like a logician, but dealing with statistics?
RE: 17 killed in Cuban plane crash
The US still has sanctions against Cuba, I believe.
It would therefore be impossible for a Cuban carrier to purchase any new airliners or the majority of spare parts for them. The parts for Soviet-bloc aircraft have always been in short supply; in the old days, once they ceased production they also stopped making parts.
It’s frankly a miracle that civil aviation exists in Cuba at all – maybe you should direct a little of your anger at Cubana towards to the Americans. I don’t think the UK or EU have the same sanctions.
RE: Manx Airlines
Thanks for the input.
Do you have any idea of the second hand price of a F50 or a J41?
I’m trying to get a handle on the viability of such a service.
RE: Manx Airlines
Back to the original post…
I think a twice daily IOM-AMS route would be a treat.
What do you think would be the most economical aircraft for such a route?
RE: New airplanes for KLM
Yes, the 777 is the bee’s knees and I am very sure KLM will opt for it, probably the -200ER.
They’d only go for Airbus if the Dutch government applied pressure – not something I’d say is too likely.
At least all 3 options can have RR Trent power! So the UK could do OK out of it regardless.
RE: Pseudonyms
No, us Englishmen are confident in our own patriotism as it is and don’t feel the need to wave the flag!
Having said that, I drink the black stuff all year round anyway. It tastes nicer in Dublin, though. The Liffey magic!
RE: Pseudonyms
Urgh! Stick to Guinness chaps. It’s good for you.
