I don’t know Steve – Beckham will still be OK at 30 or 31. Owen will be at his peak and Rooney will have matured a bit.

Gerrard will be in his peak also.

The only areas of doubt are at the back – especially between the sticks.

The only two sides which we should fear are Brazil and Italy – the German and Argy complexes have been well and truly exorcised by Sven.

I’d say a “dirty bomb” attack is quite likely, but not a full blown A-bomb.

Perhaps countries like the US, Russia and China should reduce their own stockpiles first. Being able to end the world once is one thing, but why the hell do you need enough nukes to destory the world 5 or 6 times over?!

Iran is probably the biggest threat, followed by Pakistan. North Korea comes third and Israel fourth. In the case of Pakistan, the US could only disarm them if they also disarmed the Indians. In the case of Iran, they need to disarm Israel at the same time.

Why is it, that ATM-style self service check ins are so rare in the UK? You only ever see them at big airports.

They are so much quicker and easier than queing for a check in desk, and presumably cheaper for both airline and airport too.

I asked a client today if he’d caught too much sun over the weekend as his face was really red and looked sore. It turned out to be a bee sting and I felt a right plonker.

Before my last exam (2 weeks ago) I had erected a garden shed. Being preoccupied I didn’t notice how strong the sun was. Resultingly, I had really bad sunburn in the exam room.

My forearms and neck are still slightly red now.

I don’t know, I’ve seen my fair share of irritated pax.

Two christmasses ago, I was flying IOM-MAN on Dec 24th to meet up with my family. I was booked on the mid-afternoon flight.

Well, 30 mins before scheduled departure an “indefinite” delay is announced. This eventually becomes “cancelled”. I was one of the lucky few to manage to squeeze onto the next flight late in the evening. I missed my train connection in Manchester and BA had to fork out over £250 for a taxi ride as a result. At least they were prepared to do so, unlike Easyjet I would imagine.

I was annoyed, but not shouting or anything. But people who had their entire Xmas plans wrecked were seriously upset. The weather was fine, just the aircraft went tech. What annoyed people, was that another aircraft was sitting on the tarmac. The airline staff were asked if it was available, but nobody seemed to know – as if its presence there was a mystery. And I can understand the frustration – plans wrecked because of a faulty aircraft, but there are spare aircraft that aren’t being used and nobody seems to know anything. A definitive “yes” or “no” would have helped; some leadership was needed but not demonstrated. Sometimes, customer service should not be left to the customer service team – a senior person (pilot, engineeer, accountant or whoever) should step in.

Internal flights BKK-HKT are quite affordable. It’s about 90 minutes each way and Thai will sit you in an A300-600 for £79 return on most seats. That’s better than Ryanair nearly!

Chiang Mai will cost about the same – a bit shorter, but still A300 operated. Some flights might be 737/A330. Chiang Mai is the “culture” bit with temples and so on, though you are likely to find anywhere in Thailand different and interesting if you’re anything like me. Just be wary of the “girls”! I’m not kidding, Pattaya will make your eyes pop out !

From distant memory, Pattaya isn’t too far from Bangkok, maybe a few hours drive. Hotels always seem cheap. A friend of a friend stayed in a 5 star place for £9 a night last month, though you may want to treat that with a big pinch of salt!
