Reeve Aleutian went bust a few years ago I think. As there are hardly any L-188 operators around these days, it seems sensible that Atlantic acquired some of their aircraft.
On a sidenote:
When I was about 12 or 13, I was determined (!) to be a pilot. I wrote off to lots of airlines, including Atlantic. They gave me a freebie ride on a DC-3! I was thrilled and when I got another freebie (2 hours with Monarch’s chief pilot in their 757-200 simulator) he was envious of me. Wonderful times for a kid!
Well done with the snaps Kev, they are very interesting and a refreshing change to the usual 747s from airliners.net
PS – does anyone know what the piston twin on the last photo is? It looks like some sort of Convair but I’m not sure.
Seems that way, doesn’t it.
As Churchill once said – a jolly good idea, but not including us of course.

It was actually an order from the Government, so BA had no choice.
I think the UK government is very experienced in terrorism matters (what with the IRA and so on, and helping the US against al’Qaeda) so I trust them.
At any rate, they were right about an attack in Africa!

Did anyone watch Have I Got News For You! on Friday?
Ian Hislop had a real go at d’Estaing and made alleagtions which I had previously read about in a book by John Simpson.
Reportedly, he and his brother extorted diamonds from the Central African Republic and engineered the downfall of the “emperor” of the Central African Republic (that nice chap who is supposed to be a cannibal and keep human parts in his fridge).

I don’t know, I think my last point was a bit silly. Sorry about that.

Engines are a strange area.
I find it odd that none of the manufacturers has a comprehensive range. Instead, they farm out smaller engines to JV companies like CFM (GE/Snecma) and IAE (PW/RR??).
Apart from the 757, all the narrow bodies are powered by these JV companies.
With the GE/PW Alliance, it looks like this is happening for the big engines too.
No mystery GD, I thought all the Qantas 744s were RR powered, because all the ones I’ve seen were. I didn’t know they had picked up any 2nd hand ones from Malaysian.
It just seemed strange that QF would plan their fleet around so many different engine types – the less vairety the less the operational and stockholding costs.
ABZ – Aberdeen.
The London-Aberdeen run was one of the first to be targeted by the LCC’s because it was the route with the honour of having the highest proportion of passengers with BA Gold cards!
Aberdeen is the gateway to the North Sea oil rigs and most workers are do a shift pattern of 3 weeks on, 2 week off…or a variation thereof.
Are the A330’s supposed to replace the 767’s?
On a similar note, seems that Qantas are moving away from RR – their 763s and 744s have RB211s, but the A332s and 744ER’s used different makes. Will they therefore go for the Alliance option on their A380s?
The mugs killed more muslims than anyone else!
Maybe if Spain had prevented this atrocity they would have been condemned for it, just like the UK was condemned by Spain for shooting terrorists in Gibraltar.
