RE: Airline Business
Thanks wingflaps. It’s heartening to see that other “young” people are intent on a career in the industry apart from the usual “i wanna fly planes” mantra (though I wouldn’t mind doing that!)
RE: British European BHX-BRU
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-01-03 AT 09:14 PM (GMT)]It’s been a while since I flew on Flybe, but I took IOM-LCY and back again for a long weekend break, in late March 2002. Dash 8-200 outbound and Dash 8-300 return.
They served tea/coffee and a biscuit. No other food.
Time before that was also IOM-LCY, in August 2001 – no food then either.
RE: British European BHX-BRU
I’m envious. For people living out of the way (like the Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands) there’s no such thing as £2 flights. Best way is usually to book a flight all they way through to the final destination on BA and benefit from slightly cheaper connections.
RE: Cheapest way from Melbourne to Isle of Man??
Hopefully departing MEL on 12 April (Sat) returning 23 April (Weds).
I tried messing around with the departure date, but to no avail. It seems the airlines are all in a conspiracy (apart from Air NZ which charges a totally wierd price!)
Also, this is my treat. Some of the airlines seem to say, very forcefully, that I am not allowed to pay because it is not I who is travelling. I’m beginnig to think, sod the internet, ask a travel agent 😮
RE: SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS CELEBRATES FIRST A340-600
That’s exactly what they do have on the 345 and 346 though 🙂
RE: Mobile phones.
Glad to see that I’m the only mug who has an Ericsson!
I had one of those dinky T28’s and liked it. When it was time for a change I got a new T65 with WAP, GPRS and all the rest. Unfortunately it is complete rubbish. It hangs at least once every five calls and I have to lever out the sim card to get it to work again.
It’s been back to the shop a few times but it is “within normal parameters” so I’m stuck with it.
On the Isle of Man the standard cost is £30 per month line rental with expensive call charges on top of that. It’s also a fiver each for voicemail and itemised billing!
I’m seriously fed up and thinking of just not having a cell anymore.

RE: Airline Business
Wingflaps, I was considering a similar career choice to you. I might still look at it when I qualify. I’ve got a BA in business studies and will soon be a qualified accountant, courtesy of a prestigous firm of accountants.
I’m looking at financial management or treasury management (managing the cashflow) – do you see many of these vacancies popping up within the next few years?
RE: Pilot grounded under drink suspicion
A bit draconian, isn’t it? How the hell does one glass of wine make someone a worse pilot?!
I shudder to think of all those incidents caused be incapacitated AF pilots!!!
RE: KLM and BUZZ and Air Lib Express.
That’s like buying a new kitchen from MFI before you sell your house!
RE: 747 SP
On a tangent I know, but the SAA website has a very good .pdf “board paper” summarising their fleet planning. The SP really is a financial black hole compared to the A330 or even future A340s!
RE: 747 SP
SAA and Syrian still fly them. Qantas used to, until very March 2002:

RE: Two Airlines Apply For Cockpit Guns .
I believe that United and American already have guns in their cockpits when operating to the UK.
RE: KLM and BUZZ and Air Lib Express.
Preston, KLMuk continues to operate the AMS feeder flights, but that is all it is good for. The Buzz part of things is surplus to requirements. Talk of extra investment is just a way of getting more cash when they offload Buzz!
RE: Boeing 727 Flies Into History !
How about the same idea applied to 707’s and DC-8’s – equipping them with two new engines and two “dummy” engines to maintain balance?
