A bit of a question for the Hawker experts out there. What is this device hanging from the lower starboard wing of the Afghan Hind? It is outboard of the bomb shackles and is only present on the starboard wing.

Its actually the internal structure of one of Baders tin legs. The outer skin and foot are in the resto shop. They used the Hind to make an emergency drop of one in Liverpool in the 40’s I believe.

    😉

That Cherry Blossom……. sends shivers up my spine every time i see it. You and I must have seen it hundreds of times….. don’t know about you but it still scares me! 😮

What is the state of play with the old girl? Has the glorious weather interfered with her repaint??

As a slight off topic, what about the comet repaint??

Hope to go back again in the next 3-4 weeks, fingers , vertebrae and shoulders crossed! (although the vertebrae and shoulders tend to do this on their own anyway!!!) 🙂

Flying to Guernsey on a BEA Viscount from Brum. Very exciting as a 4 or 5 year old. I remember we banked over Guernsey and the sun relected off loads of the greenhouses. Looked like a jewel. That image will stay with me forever. We also had some turbulence and I asked the steward if he was the driver and could he go back to the front and do it again please! So sad not to see the Viscount at Cossie anymore. It used to bring back great memories every time i saw it. 🙁

She did. She was to be a floating university and had just been completed when several fires took hold. Not sure if she is still there though. She made a cameo appearance in a bond film IIRC?

Who is/was your favourite driver? Ronnie Peterson/Mr Senna DaSilva
Which is/was your favourite team? Lotus
Which is/was your favourite circuit? Spa (turkey is getting more appealing)

I must admit that for close racing, I watch the bikes…… all of them!! BSB/WSB/MotoGP. With all their support races its damned good fun. With the smaller cc classes, the riders are all like 15/16/17 yrs old and think they are immortal. Crazy stuff, but you gre more overtaking moves in the last lap than in 10 years of F1……… and I like F1!

The bloody thing is younger than me!! How come she gets pensioned off somewhere sunny and I still have to carry on til I’m 80 odd in the midlands piggin’ drizzle?!!? 😡
Lets hope she does not meet the same fate as QE1.
BTW, is the QE1 still reclining in the briney, or has she been cut up/rotted away?

    Hi Mr Regal!
Thanks for your reply. The owner told me that 90% of the finds were Roman coins. As regards the proximity of the river, it is “extremely” tidal. By which, I mean that 90 minutes either side of high tide makes it un-navigable and the exposed silt is basically quicksand…… I know this from experience!!! Could it be a Romano-Briton structure built on an earlier enclosure? The enormity of the wall makes me doubtful of it being an animal enclosure. It is 6′ thick and of a good quality construction….. better condition than Hadrians Wall!
Although it is built on high ground, there are areas within a 1/2 mile radius that are higher, which makes me doubt a military site. A mile and a half to the NW is what appears to be more earthworks that seem to be ploughed out.
    Here…..
    50°22’21.51″N 4°30’40.58″W

    Any relationship? Hmmm??????!!

    PS; MESSAGE TO MODS:
Can we have a ‘bl00dy well confused about things other than aircraft and womens mood swings’ forum please!! 😀

so what did the railway company (Arriva – “transport partner”) offer? 1 train within an hour of the published finishing time. So much for “integrated transport”.

There was a **** up last year wasn’t there RRW? About 2 months ago the Arriva spokesman said on BBC Midlands Today that a more extensive service would be available this year……. obviously lied through his teeth!

I gave gave up going to the Cosford Airshow some years back, much prefer travelling to Duxford twice a year.

Why won’t it let me type C O C K up. How do I refer to a male chicken??? 😀
