Thanks for the comments everyone. LBARULES, no I didn’t see either of those aircraft this time, but I can almost guarantee you that even half a days spotting will come up with every aircraft in the Ryanair fleet, aside from maybe one or two that could be in a hangar somewhere. If you were there for half a day, you would see most of them twice aswell!
Greekdude, that SP actually belongs to Saudi Arabian Airlines, and not the royal flight. However, it may be flying for the Royal Flight as the only other Saudi Arabian aircraft I’ve seen at Stansted have been the royal one, such as the Tristar and MD-11’s.
Ok well as I said, when I next speak to you over msn I can send you some maps and stuff. Because really, you do not want to go trekking around Stansted without knowing where to go! It’s a bloody nightmare, and so is the security. There are a few things I’ve picked up over the years about things you are and aren’t allowed to do, but i’ll go over them with you, otherwise you could find yourself sitting in the police station of my home town, which according to my cousins isn’t very nice! 😉
Thanks for the comments! It really is greatly appreciated! 😀 😉
Sandy, are you planning to hang around the terminal all day or actually go spotting? If you are at the terminal, views are fairly limited until you actually go through security, and I think all that time would start to get a bit boring! I’m afraid that I’ll just be arriving in the tropical island of Borneo when you come down this way, and so I will not be able to meet you 😉
If you are planning on doing some proper spotting away from the terminal, I can guide you to several places. Aslong as you don’t mind a bit of a trek though, as it is likely to take you in the region of an hour each way to get anywhere near the approaches. If you do want to do this then I can send you some maps and things over msn to show you where to go, but it’ll still be a bit of a nightmare for you! Traffic wise, you shouldn’t get too bored at first, but the Ryanair’s to get a bit tedious when you start to see the same ones as you did 2 hours before (rather like the BA Buses at Heathrow). Other than those 3 different aircraft I was lucky enough to see yesterday, there wasn’t much else interesting to see other than the usual FedEx’s, a Streamline avaition Shorts 360, and one or two private jets.
However, other days can be a lot better, and May will be in the Summer season so there will be more to see. 2 and a half hours spotting last June at Stansted produced the follwoing aircraft:
Norwegian Air Shuttle 737-300
Saudi Arabian MD-11
Mid East Jet 757
Saudi Arabian SP
MK Airlines DC-8
FedEX mD-11
2 X European 737-200
TNT A300
Asiana Cargo 747-400F
Titan 737-300
CSA 737-500
Balkan Holidays Tu-154M
Euroskylink Piaggio Avanti
BAe Systems BAe-125
Aurigny Saab 340
Air Berlin 146
BA 146
Well they were the interesting aircraft, which makes it seem a bit quiet for 2 and a half hours worth of spotting, aye? Well take those aircraft, and then mix all these in between them all:
11 X Easyjet 737
11 X Ryanair 737-800’s
2 X Ryanair 146’s (Buzz cs)
4 X Ryanair 737-300’s (Hybrid cs)
9 X Ryanair 737-200’s
Thanks for the comments Skylinerworld and Andy. And no I don’t know why pp is down, probably just a server problem.
And finally, is another Ryanair in the new livery. But this time, it’s my name-sake! EI-DAN. And this is also the aircraft I flew back from PIK on in December, and got to sit in the cockpit.
Ryanair’s newest -800, EI-DCB. The angel also seems to have the latest breast enlargements!:D
Nice to see the odd few of these still flying around.
Dull skies, but atleast the plane is a bit of a contrast.
Here is G-RUNG again, there ya go Wysi and Skycruiser 😉 This is also my first ‘beacon’ shot, where I’ve taken the pic and have been lucky enough to catch the beacon flashing!:D
Here is the Egypt Air that followed, with Ryanair’s leased Excel aircraft taxiing for take-off next.
Poppies! This would brighten up a dull apron.
Another one
Next up is the Saudi, you can just see the Martinair creeping up behind it.
Excellent shots Dazza and Moondance! Very nice, I really like the Bmi Baby’s.:D

Excellent shots! The easyJet A319 is my favourite there 🙂I think you and I have similar cameras, how do you capture the moving aircraft so well? It takes mine so long to (well.. a few seconds) to focus, set shutter speed etc, that by the time the photograph is actually taken, the aircraft has landed already and has since parked up at the terminal!! 😀
I have the same problems with my camera, although it is 3.2MP, it is quite a cheap one, and the focusing is very bad. What I find helps, is to stand infront of an object on the approach, something more definite like a tree. Then focus the picture with the tree and the plane in the other half of the frame, then once it had focused just fit the plane into the frame and take the picture. I think the camera finds it difficult to focus on something small like a plane in the sky, but with a tree or something liek that it is a lot easier.
