Overall I was more than satisfied, unlike last year where I doubted I would be back.

It was a case of quality over quantity, the static types were interesting, allthough there doesnt seem to be any sort of theme on the big dispersal. Is the lonely looking Nimrod the one earmarked for Newark Air Museum?

the lack of boards and info is very annoying though!

I saw the Seahawk taxi out, but dont think it flew. shame, as I have never seen this a/c fly.

The Spits, Hurricane and Buchon were my highlight, its been a while since I last saw that many together. And it was great to see the Hurri bomber for the 1st time. Shame R4118 didnt make an appearance.

The Vulcan, well what do I need to say that hasnt allready been expressed?

R4118 was there both days. She had a short flight on Saturday due to ‘snags’ but we spent all morning fixing her and she flew in the slot on Sunday and departed from slot back to home. The Sea Hawk flew both days too.

It like my father used to say about ships and boats.

    Ships carry boats.

    Boats do not carry ships.

Submarines are boats, everything else is a target….or am i on the wrong forum??

Thank you. I always feel very honored to work on her and never take it for granted. This is our 6th year of operation now and a very busy season. Not sure if we will be at Legends as they still have not comfirmed!

Hi. I head the ground crew of R4118 and was there working on her on both days. The trouble was she was dumping coolant from the top tank via the pressure releaf valve.
The polot was unaware this was happenning but was told by the other Hurricane, who had a better view.
Pilot decided to land straight away, which was the correct thing to do.
First it was though that the Teddington valve was faulty, but after inspection it was working correctly.
Last weekend at Biggin hill we also had coolant problems.
The week before, the radiator was removed for repair. When it was replaced, we still had pockets of air in the system. The sysrem was bled by us on the Saturday and then the radiator was bled with the engine running.
This looks to have cleared the fault.
I have put it down to ‘trapped wind’

I suppose you are right – I am easily pleased and just grateful to be able to see any of them. Funnily enough my grandson (7) wanted to know if there were any Stukas. Mmm – nice thought. In fact are there any static Stukas which could conceivably be restored to flying condition?

There is a later mark on display in Hendon, but that is about it….I think, though I am sure someone will correct me. I did hear of one a few years ago, but nothing became of it.

I agree, simply being able to see these wonderful aircraft is simply fantastic and should never be taken for granted. I have worked with R4118 for 6 years now and really feel privilaged in what I do. Haveing a very nice owner, like Peter Vacher, is alway a great bonus too!

Oh, I don’t know, Simon – I thought the whole BoB sequence was very well put together and executed and deservedly got the applause that followed. My grandson was in awe!:)

Trouble was that they insisted on puting a Spitfire and a Hurricane up together and I think it would have been nicer to put all the Hurricanes up together. The sequence was around 40 minutes long. It was nice to see though. Really needs a Stuka or 2??. Now there is something.

Still a very noisey show next week. Will be there with R4118. Not sure at the moment what the program will be??

Would be nice if they are intending to get all 5 in the air at the same time.

You’d probably have to go back to the filming of Angel One Five for the last time that happened…and did they even have 5 then…?

I would dearly love to see all of the UK’s airworthy Hurricanes doing a mass BofB style scramble from DX’s grass at Legends followed by a spiral battle climb to angels ?? demo and return to home curved approach. Real evocotive period stuff not ‘modern’ aeros demos.

I was there both days as was ground crewing on R4118. Both days 5 hurricanes flew despite the BBMF having a brake bag issue and us having a coolant and magneto problem. Shame that they were not planning to do a 5 ship flypast though.
