When the remake was first announced in 2006 David Frost made it clear that the original “Dambusters” March by Eric Coates would be re-used in the movie. The actual incidental music in the original was by Leighton Lucas though the Coates theme was woven into it.

Thanks Colin, I wasn’t aware of that, and I have to say I’m pleased. Somehow it just wouldn’t seem right without it.
New Music
I am looking forward to seeing this film whenever it is released. I am sure that with Stephen Fry writing the filmscript we will get an accurate version of the raid. I accept there may be some compromise over the dogs name and a bit of romance/love/life story thrown in to get bums on seats as we know not all cinema goers are aviation fanatics. I suspect there might be a focus on Gibsons marriage, which I have read was a bit rocky at times or on someone who died on the raid like Burpee, married to an English girl, baby on the way.
I think whoever is doing the music score has one of the most difficult jobs in cinema history following Eric Coates (assuming there will be new music). How can anyone improve on The Dambusters March? Who do you think would be able to do it, A L Webber perhaps? (Not a fan of his but can’t really think of anyone else at the moment).
Sorry to take things of track but I have just watched the original and I think the music was a big part of the film.
He looked puzzled and replied: “The collection.”
Did he mean his secret stash of literature and films for the discerning gentleman or was he merely refering to museum exhibits?:D

Somebody get him his coat!:;)
Thanks everyone, I now feel very guilty for not paying attention to local history, although I have read many books on the local stuff. A good few weekends this summer (if we get one) will be spent putting it right. Now, how do I convince the missus that the old tower at Westonzoyland is a good site for a picnic?
So, you’re after somewhere nice but unpopular! Have you thought about Dorchester?

We had a chap who was involved with the development work in fitting the vipers on shacks give a lecture at a small group I used to belong to (sorry I can’t remember his name). He told us that originally they were going to use separate fuels, avgas for the griffons and avtur (I think, not too sure on technical things) for the vipers. They realised that using different fuels would probably lead to problems with the wrong fuel in the wrong tanks and so decided avgas for everything. This was not as easy as has been suggested. The viper fuel (avtur?) was used as a lubricant on some of the bearings before going through to be burnt. Avgas was too thin and so unsuitable as a lubricant and significant changes had to be made to the vipers before they were fitted. This was discovered when the first few vipers had been fitted and were wrecked in no time. As I said I’m not sure of all the technicallities and it may be complete rubbish but he seemed to know what he was talking about and I had no reason to doubt him.

Is it me or does progress on the Hampden seem to be very slow at the moment.[/QUOTE]
I last saw the Hampden when it was in the old airship hangers at Cardington in the mid-nineties. Progress was really slow then. We were told they had one chap working on it every Wedsnesday morning!
Parts of that blenheim from pawlett hams are on display at kemble i believe, they were gifted one of the engines and 2 prop hubs complete with the blades attached.
One of the local groups atleast are tinkering with a blenheim as they collected all the brackets, undercarrage etc to help on the project, i was shown the location of this blenheim in the severn ages ago but to be honist i would sooner put the effort looking for the westland whirlwind just down river. Perhaps if they are keen on funding a local recovery project i could help out with a sidescan sonar and towed proton magnetometer, but you will need to hire a hovercraft as i want to keep me picknic hamper dry!
Hi fighterace, I saw the Pawlett Hams Blenheim in a certain garden after recovery. I recall the undercarriage being in remarkably good condition and various parts taken for ‘reverse engineering’ for other projects.
Did we meet at archiologist boys’ Mosquito recovery last year, the one where the huge water main stopped us playing? My missus was the dishing out the ice lollies:)
