Engine cowling has been made from composite materials for many a number of years now and incidents like this can unfortunately be common. That is why there are well researched and tested methods for inspection and repair as necessary.
Why are you slandering the maintenance techniques of ANA by alluding to the possibility that they just ‘walked away and left it’?
You (not you personally Amiga) really have to think that Boeing released this aircraft (and the FAA certified it) with a published set of inspections for occasions like this – for all areas of the aircraft. No, this type of thing shouldn’t happen, but neither should a lot of things. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
Is the floor structure under/around door 1L (or 2L on occassions) reinforced to account for the increased usage?
The 787 is certainly a new era in aviation. The entire fuselage is composite material and the majority of the wings are too – when has that ever been done before on this scale?! The fact that the engines are bleedless, new inspection and repair techniques have had to be developed and that ground handling has had to be redefined. Anyway. Well done to Boeing.
I think when the AKL runway was being gradually resurfaced, the taxiway was used for operations. Don’t quote me on that though :p
I don’t like the advert. Just my opinion of course. Compared to the fun adverts VS and ANZ put out, the BA advert isn’t selling me anything I wouldn’t expect from any other airline. They want to serve their customers? Yeah….well…is that not what they are supposed to do? Why should I fly with them; just because they are telling me they have been around for yonks and are alright at serving their customers?
If KLM and/or Air France are offering me a similar/cheaper price from EDI to AMS/CDG, I will take that! The BA advert doesn’t entice me to choose to fly with them and have to pass through LHR in the process. I understand the hub and spoke system and also understand that airlines need to cut routes to maximise profits, but I think it’s a joke that BA don’t fly anywhere else outside the UK, apart from London. I am happy to be proven wrong, but what other ‘national carrier’ only flies from one of their countries cities to outside of it?
I will fly with BA if the price is right, but I will not fly with them because of that advert.
That looks fantastic! Whish I knew about it when I lived in Germany. I think it was this one that I went to in Holland when I was younger: http://madurodam.com/

Would scientists be able to create human eggs and sperm from stem cells? If they haven’t already done so? They have managed it with other animals.

Just another part of travel that induces stress! I have definitely been at the airport, I think boarding for a flight, where I have heard the airline request that passengers with window seats board first (regardless of row I think), so maybe it was ANZ.
People couldn’t wait till everyone got their seat before putting the stuff away, as then everyone would have to get up again to put stuff away and there wouldn’t be enough space in the isle to do so!
Perhaps airports should take advice from the LCC’s and allow airlines to board from both the front and rear of the aircraft (i.e. double up on air bridges). I know, I know, would cost too much 🙂
I was referring to airplane parking spaces (not car parks) and I still reckon that space fill free up now. It has to make sense, doesn’t it? Planes coming off the production line with nowhere to go for months – like dripping tap into a sink with the plug in.
Whereas, with the planes now being able to leave Everett, even if they come off the line faster they will be able to leave the place instead of being parked up – like a dripping tap in a sink with no plug!
There will be a lot of free parking space at Everett over the coming months…
I thought “a flight was a flight” to you 😉

I hear around 12th-13th is the handover date. And Air India to take their first, December some time.
Let’s not all forget one of the biggest sellers of the cabin: the enhanced passenger comfort that comes from increase in internal pressure and as such, higher humidity and lower perceived altitude.
