One of my camera’s is the 350D. I shoot in Tv mode, trying to maintain a shutter speed of 1/500 and F8-11, if you use Av mode for shooting in bad light then it will drop the shutter speed down and hence create blurry images as you not “freezing” the action, esp on aircraft taking off and landing, you might get away with it on the taxiing ones.
Practise makes perfect, shooting in bad light to start with won’t make it any easier.
what i did and prolly won’t do

This shot with Canon 350D + 100-400 IS L, I think fairly sure, if not the a 30D with 70-200 IS L F2.8

any idea what time? cos I will be around in MAN from Fri til New Year!
Nice shots of a cracking piece of kit! some good stuff up there this week!
nice line up’s! was going to be there myself today but torn my bloody hamstring on friday…
Like the TAM aswell, perfectly backdrop and afternoon sunlight!
good stuff, you cannot beat a bit of 06 arrivals! Smokin wheels!
Nicely composed shots, looked a lovely day, I think I was at LHR the day before and it was poor wx.
Thing is there are a lot of these a/c on their databases with these angles. Try some different angles on them and give it a shot. LHR is my local so I have to try and be a bit creative with what I shoot. Found a couple of nice angles for shots recently which have got on a.net.

I tend to agree with softlad here. The shot composed OK but the quailty is not great, I don’t think the dark weather did you any favours on this day, looks to me like the shutter speed wasn’t fast enough….were you using auto mode? Thing is on a dark day your not going to be able to get high shutter speeds such as 1/500 without bumping up the ISO which itself adds noise to the pic. But its certainly worth playing with the settings in the camera. I started off with a 350D and a 70-300 IS lens (see my pics on a.net for examples) I just played with the camera and worked out what I was aiming for, you want to aim for an Fnumber of 8-11 with a shutter speed of 1/400-1000 to freeze the aircraft and get the whole pic in focus. Waiting for bright weather is also a benefit!
What len’s are you getting for the 350D, as this will be a big factor aswell. I just bought a Canon 30D (I have the 350 as a back up)and upgraded from the 70-300 IS to a 100-400 IS L and a 70-200 IS L F2.8, OK a lot of dosh but the quailty of the images in terms of colours and sharpness are superb. I don’t just do av photography I also do sports.
I would certainly recommend the 70-300 IS lens, its sharp and very light.
If you need any help on the camera feel free to PM me! I’ll be in Manchester over the xmas period and hope to get to the airport during that time. Keep shooting practise makes perfect, you should see some of my attempts when I started!!
no its complete kak in business!
little screen pulls out from your seat. crap little handset on a cord. Business had 2 or 3 films starting whilst the back had 1 film at once. audio was 12 channels but I could only hear 4. all in all I’d take your ipod or video player!
Just got back from Cape Town in Business Class, CEFG I think, no leather seats in business, but chairs are not bad, service is obviously new as are the staff, within 10mins of take off a whole tray of champagne went over one passenger then about 10mins later a glass of red wine down another…..its “business class” but not business class.
shooting through the fence at 27L line up point, opposite cains lane.

Sorry I disappointed you 😉 were you expecting spotters with brazilians or Brazilian spotters?
yes TAM are scheduled into LHR, looks like daily at the moment.
