The F-23 is the better platform because it offers more stealth, speed and probably range, but less manoeuvrability.
Price will be astronomic anyway 😀 Even if a lot of components could be taken from other planes like F119 engines and F-35 avionics.

The Naval threat requires range, endurance, a bloody great SAR-moded radar and competent EO fit (plus a guy-in-back to push the buttons, read the map etc), and a heavy payload carrying capability for as many medium antiship missiles as the airframe will take. The reasons for this are obvious so I wont insult you by stating them!.
But how many of those anti ship missiles can the F-15E carry? It is not really suitable to carry ASMs, i.e. the Harpoon. You would have to load them where the drop tanks normally go (thus losing range), or invent something new since the Harpoon wouldnt fit under the CFTs it seems.

It is about 1,4 Mach in service.The max possible speed of F-22 is about 2 Mach.
I’ve seen different figures. Its Mach 1.72 and the engines were still below 100%. Thats according to a Flug Revue article.
Top speed is unknown, but its likely limited due to ram overheating.
Well, i have seen a demo of a loded SH. It carried 10 AAMs and put on a really impressive display.
The SH can turn and burn, coupled with very high angles of attack and full burners most of the time of course 😉

The F-35B has been ordered to replace the Harriers, the F-35C would be a far better option for only a little extra money spent on the carriers. The Typhoon on the other hand is intended to replace the Jaguars, Tornado F-3’s officialy. But it is becoming increasing apparent that strike capable Typhoons combined with the JSF’s and as yet unspecified UAV’s will form the RAF’s future strike and air dominance capability.
The RAF didnt have the option of waiting for the JSF to replace its entire fleet, the Jaguars and Tornado F-3 were/are in desperate need of replacement and the Typhoon offers a quantum leap in capability including being dual role. So whilst the Typhoon is now entering service the JSF is no were near ready for delivery to the RAF, thus the RAF’s procurement needs are at least in some respects met.
Sure, but even the RAF itself doesnt seem to like the Jaguar being replaced by mostly A/A only EFs. There was an article in afm about the “bomber gap”. After all, it will take some time to bring the EF to full tranche 3 standard. Lets see what comes first, F-35 or T3 Eurofighters.

Not really, as a Harrier replacement the F-35B is unrivaled.
Comparing it to EF would be like comparing the F-18C to the AV-8B e.g. the USMC should get rid off the Harriers because their not supersonic.

No, the F-35A or C. Theres no point comparing a STOVL fighter like the F-35B to the Eurofighter. 😉

But these are all “soft facts” I dont know much about, so comparing the fuel load is the easiest way.
Ooo, i’d like to see pics with f35 carrying 6 big ones. Not that i don’t believe you, as i know LM said wing pylons are made to carry such ordenance. Also, eurofighter consortium said one of typical a2g loads would be 4 stormshadows, each weighing over 2000 lbs. Theoretically, underbelly pylon could also be used to weapons carriage but i doubt they’ll even wire it that way, benefit of extra fuel tank there is much greater than an extra 5th bomb.
There are pics, however, with EF carrying 6 1000 lbs paveways, showing that the only dedicated aam pylon is the most outer one on the wing.

The point is, the JSF is the better striker so the RAF would be better off with JSF equiped attack squadrons.

Good question. With all the planned weapons intergration for the Typhoon and some of the extra goodies suggested for Tranche-3 (such as better engines and Conformal Fuel Tanks) the Typhoon should be as capable as the Tornadoe, and thats not even mentioning the significantly smaller RCS.
Better engines and CFT are just proposals at the moment. Though the JSF is nowhere near complete too.
And the significantly smaller RCS will grow significantly once you load the EF with A/G stores and external fuel.
What makes you say that?
More range (8000kg of fuel vs 5000kg), better LO characteristics coupled with the ability to carry internal weapons and of course the ability to carry up to 6 2000lb weapons compared to the Typhoons 2 (i havent seen more).
Replacing the Tornado with a true strike fighter like the JSF would make a lot of sense. EF is nice, but doesnt come close at least in this area.
I wonder if the British are pushing for a two seat version, I’m sure other export customers would be interested too.

You don’t see many pictures of the F-15 with the outter pylon. Supposedly there were flutter issues and they didn’t really need it anyway after they got the CFTs. ISTR they’re 1000lb hardpoints.
They are rated at 1300lb. I guess the proposed F-15G would have used them since HARM will not fit on the CFTs.
But that didnt materialize and since the E, the pylons are deleted.
EF empty weight already increased from the original design goal of around 10 tons to over 11 tons. You will find 9752kg (design goal) to 10995kg. I have seen 11250 or 11500 too.
