    Fighter aircraft ‘Mirage’ Tested 😀
    Balasore April 11
The Indian Airforce today successfully tested rhe weapon delivery system of fighter aircraft ‘Mirage’ at the integreted test range at chandipore on sea. ITR sources said

Minutes later the fighter aircraft having weapon deliver system was seen in the sky that succesfully bombed the object attached

I seriously doubt the IAF actually took this development serious in any way (i don’t think they would waste Candids on attack missions), but during the trials the Soviets did with the Il-76, they did put rocket pods on pylons on the IL-76’s third prototype’s outer wings, and fired them. I don’t have further details, but my guess is these pods were actually for S-5P forward-firing chaff rockets rather than ground attack, but i’m guessing here.

This is most likely what the officer referred to.

EDIT: I knew i’ve seen it – there is a picture of this Il-76 when it was still rotting away at Riga-Spilve in Latvia. On the largest magnification, you can (barely) see the two rocket pods, attached almost right to the wing. They are right in the shadow, just in front of the wing’s trailing edge shadown on the fuselage (i know that’s pretty unclear, but anyway…) http://www.airliners.net/open.file/779251/L/

Thanks Arthur, I really appreciate your answer.
To be frank I’ll like put faith on your judgement regarding the picture link you gave because I couldnt make out much from that picture.. 😮 If thats true
it would be great to have confirmation that apart from Aerial bombs or radio beacons IL-76 could also carry missiles!

    Questions……….?!!

I still remember my educational trip to Airforce station at Chandigarh which I had about 8-9 years back… We were being given briefings about various transport aircrafts/helicopters stationed at the Airforce base… but one particular comment by an airforce officer which I still remember vividly was
that the IL-76 in general has ability to carry & fire missiles! I just wanted to ask all the informed members that

Also Apart from the above queries…
India had used An-12’s for carpet bombing in the previous wars. Now since An-12’s are long gone…Now which transport plane has taken this role ie is it
    An-32 or the IL-76?

    Plz do answer !!

    Regards

the Astra rocket motor was ground tested in 2003. looks like they have been working quietly…still early days, atleast 100-150 test launches would be needed before squadron service ?

    MBDA is the consultant….. 😉

No the News Report in Tribune said only 50 tests needed to to be conducted
before induction. And if it was able to match specifications early on then no of tests required could be less.
and it has high probability of being inducted in 2010 -2011

    Hey All

Ok maybe I am dreaming :p but cant forward swept wing concept be mated to swing wing concept !!???

Shucks!! Couldnt Upload the Diagram picture….which I drew… any how
What I mean we could mainly divide wing positions into 3 cases
    1 Forward Swept Position
    2 Normal Position
    3 Backward Swept Position

Why cant we have this concept !? What could be its advantages or disadvantages !?

Ok all of u can now load & aim ur guns upon me ? 😀
