    Kyrgiz MiG-23MS

    ok this time! 😀

    MiG-15 UTI/17 Herat

Very interesting picture of the Kyrgyz MiG-23MS. Any info regarding the yellow marking on the air intake, just to the front of the wing root? Is it some sort of squadron or unit badge? Thanks.

    Angolan Su-22 with New Roundel

I noticed that the Su-22 at Catumbela doesn’t have a star in its insignia. Is this a new type of roundel, or is the star yet to be painted?

    From Tom Cooper, ACIG:

    “Hi Greg,

thanks for this highly interesting shot.

Yes, the plane appears to be spotting what is a new Angolan AF insignia – one without the yellow star. This should be in use since 1993 or 1994, but haven’t been seen that clearly yet.

BTW, the plane appears to be a survivor from some of deliveries from the 1980s, or one of most recent deliveries (from the Ukraine). I twas obviously overhauled and upgraded by the Ukrainians as well (see an unusual new camo). “

    New Angolan Roundel?

I’ve been pretty fast thinking that today I was able to hook up a portuguese aviation forum of significant interest, which looks to be fully loaded with some FANA images including a couple of L-39s placed in full combat readiness.

BTW, Can anyone of here contact him firsthand? I have a strong feeling that he could have made a successful attempt at shooting some images of two? angolan Su-24 fighter bombers operating out of Catumbela AB.

If I’m not in the wrong, I can see someone here who should have proven quite good at handling things like that would love to be able to take a grab at it.:D

    Belarus Hoplite Info

    Where was this photo taken?

Do you have any images Belarus Hinds?

    Thanks!

It was taken in August of 1995, at the MARZ plant in Chernoye, Russia. They apparently refurbish aircraft here, including An-2s and Mi-2s/Hoplites. I’ll see if I can dig up any images of Belarus Hinds.

    I’ve Seen That Plane Somewhere…

I know I’ve seen that plane somewhere- I’ll dig up the reference and let you know what I find. It is indeed a twin-boom pusher aircraft.

    Belarus PZL Hoplite

A Belarus DOSAAF PZL Mi-2 Hoplite without main or tail rotors. Note the Belarus flag at the rear of the cabin area. Nice camouflage.

    What’s The Big Deal?

Hum! To injury you add insult.

You may be amused but I am not.

There are a few descriptions of you that I could draw upon from my naval repertoire but I shall not stoop to such in view of the juvenile sense of humour displayed.

I shall therefore implement the option pointed out by Newforest, best treatment for trolls.

I note that you hide behind anonymity, how courageous.

I fail to understand the extent of your vitreol about this. It was just a harmless little joke, and quite an imaginative and creative one at that. Actually, I’m quite impressed with it, myself. I can’t imagine how you’d react if someone did something REALLY heinous, like telling you that WWE professional wrestling is all staged, or giving you fries instead of onion rings with your burger.

    Luxembourg Piper Cub Photos

Maybe you don’t know it, but Luxemburg
    had 3 military Piper-Cubs, in the 50-ties,
    with well-visible roundels…!

    I have b/w photos of them…

    friendly yours,

    E.K.

Any idea about the colors of the markings, as well as the color schemes on the aircraft? Might you be able to post the photos?

    Never Mind…

I thought someone posted a picture of a Namibian Mi-24 with the flag on the tail. If so, is there a closeup image of the crest on the fuselage that you could post? Thanks.

I got it. As they say, if it’d been a snake, it would’ve done bit me…

Unfortunately, I do not have any information regarding the source. I’ve searched the web a number of times, but to no avail. Please let me know if I need to delete the image, and I will do so.

    Silesia Post-WWI

I have a copy of the book “Military Aircraft Insignia of the World” by John Cochrane and Stuart Elliott. The section on Poland states that there was a conflict over Silesia in 1921 that was settled by a referendum returning the area to Germany. Aircraft used by the ‘Silesian’ Air Force carried rudders striped in medium blue, black, and white (from the front). The port wing carried a medium-blue square outlined in black, while the starbord wing carried a white square outlined in black, upper and lower surfaces. The illustration shows the wings and rudder of a Breguet Br.14, but this may be speculative. I believe early reconnaissance German aircraft (such as Lloyd or Albatros two-seaters) may have been used instead, but I am not certain.

Banshee, extremely interesting picture of the Liberian aircraft- thanks! (I’m amazed- where do you guys come up with some of this stuff?) Do you have any close-ups of the Liberian birds? I’ve got a Cessna Caravan photo, but stuff from that country is extremely hard to come by. It’s on my short list, along with Sao Tome e Principe, Bhutan, Fiji, Equatorial Guinea MiG-17s, post-WWI Silesia, and anything in early Cape Verdean markings.
