    Peligro Markings

Sorry Flex, at the present, no more pics available.

Might you have any images of the “Peligro” marking, left and right side since they are handed? Not sure if that is too much to hope for, but I thought I’d try. Thanks much!

Strange- the images aren’t in the thread any more. Here’s the best shot with the nose marking.

    Nose Marking Details

Hello all: Here some pics capted at the military area of Malabo Airport in Guinea Ecuatorial. Serials identified 010 and 012. Note the spanish word “peligro=danger” under the tail rotor.

    Regards from Spain.

Does anybody have details about the black marking on the nose of ‘010’, between the two canopies? It appears to be some sort of individual or squadron marking, maybe a silhouette of a tiger’s head or the head of some other animal. I plan to build a model of ‘010’, and any clearer images of this marking would be very helpful. Thanks.

    And One More

Not as weird, but still rather unusual. A Britten Norman Defender with Dowty fan propulsor units.

It Used To Be A Pretty Plane…

Two examples of radar-equipped Pilatus Britten Norman Maritime Defenders. They took a relatively pretty aircraft and made it look hideous with one simple change.

I’ve Opened It Up To All Weird Planes

That’s not the Belfegor, it was the An-2 testbed to do some work on the M-15s design. The actual Belfegor was of course the coolest cropduster ever to enter production.

And i think we should be getting back on topic. I usually don’t mind derailments, but putting weird and ancient designs here instead of grotesquely modified ones… naah, shouldn’t do that.

I opened this thread up to weird aircraft in general in a previous posting, so feel free to post anything you think looks odd. Many thanks for all the weird, odd, and grotesque planes you’ve posted so far!

    Blackburn Blackburn

British Fleet Air Arm carrier-based reconnaissance aircraft, developed from the Blackburn Dart. The rear section was normal, but it looks like they coated the front with steroids.

    I wonder why…

This is more or less extreme rather than weird:

…the cockpit canopy area is so thick? Lead shielding, perhaps? But wait- this was the ’50s! The reactor was probably in the cockpit.

    Nikitin-Shevchenko IS-4

The Nikitin-Shevchenko IS-4 was both a monoplane and a biplane. It had a retractable lower wing.

    I could have had a V.8!

The Fokker V.8. Because the Dr.1 got really boring after Albatros, and Pfalz, and all those other companies copied Fokker copying Sopwith.

If we’re posting pics of ‘silly planes’ rather than ‘Aircraft With Weird-Looking Modifications’ – then how about the Soviet Kalinin K-7 ?

    http://www.lizdas.lt/aviacija/rusija/1926-1945/k_7/k_7_schema.jpg

SIX tractor engines, one pusher, capability of 120 passengers or 7t cargo.

    Developed as a bomber.

In flight access to all engines, minimum crew 11 :- two pilots, nav/bomb aimer, radio/gunner (nose 20mm), engineer, FOUR gunners (twin DA) in cockpits at front & rear of gondolas and two gunners (20mm) at tips of tail booms.

It flew in 1933 but broke up during speed tests

What the heck, let’s open it up to weird-looking planes in general, since we’ve already started down that road. Speaking of, how about the Airspeed AS.31? Airspeed came up with this unique single-engine fighter; its pilot was to be housed in an egg-shaped cockpit situated far behind the wing to enhance visibility during take-offs and landings. However, wind tunnel tests revealed that this odd arrangement would produce intolerable G-forces during high-speed turns, and the project was abandoned.

    Caution- Student Driver

I love the trainer versions of existing aircraft. Just jam in a new cockpit, and off you go. Fairey Firefly Trainer Mk.1.
