As a youngster with an Aunt and Uncle living in Canwick, I would watch in awe as the Vulcans did their thing.
As a youth with a passion for motorsport too, I watched in awe as a certain Vulcan flew down the valley at Brands Hatch and did a vertical climb over the paddock.
As a motorsport marshal of 30 years, I watched in awe at the last appearance at Goodwood.
Being of slightly advanced years, but with shared passions now, I will be at Brands Hatch this Sunday – what chance a slight deviation of route?
Unlikely, but possible?
Some very evocative shots of the formation over Madingley posted by PhilW over on UKAR. I’m really surprised at the lack of local media coverage.
I’m fascinated by this story. I live very close to this location and drive past the cottage in the picture at least three times a week but was completely unaware that this had happened.

I’ve read these posts with interest and felt compelled to add my tenpennyworth.
1. The show was, as ever excellent. Highlights- although difficult to select were the Piper Cubs – almost Storch like in front of the tank bank, plus the final B25 take off on the grass for the Balbo-awesome.
2. It was much busier than usual, we found a gap on the flightline in front of a certain american gent (more of him later.)
3. The Horsemen were superb but I’m surprised that no-one has made comparisons to the Brietling Fighters displays so sadly missed (unless you go to Goodwood Revival meeting) where they are there in spirit if not in name.
4. My 9 year old son turned round to look at aforementioned american and said “Who’s that idiot?”
5. BC redeemed himself when he made a comment about americans doing what they want to do, accompanied by a rousing cheer behind us.
6. The two french gentlemen behind us when asked for the first time not to use their ladders duly complied with good grace, especially when the steward (a good guy american by his accent) pointed out that with one of them being taller than me (6 foot +) didn’t actually need a ladder.
We are very privileged to enjoy such a dynamic event so full of superlatives. Well done to all involved.
Noise from the Blades display travels a fair distance on the right breeze. Was able to listen to it in the garden and play “Guess the formation” from over 10 miles away.
Dakota low and slow heading towards Dx at about 8.45 this morning, then jet provost, equally low but not so slow about 5 mins ago. Not used to seeing classic jets in these parts.
Unidentified spitfire over Pettaugh, Suffolk at lunchtime yesterday.
Harvard due north this morning, then at about 12.30 today, Auster flying due North then another (same?) Spitfire. This was slightly south of here doing loops and turns. Spit then headed due north and returned at about 1.30. I could clearly make out invasion stripes but not much more in the way of i.d. Any info?
Auster then returned low and slow later this afternoon heading south.
Mustang seen over N.Ipswich at 12.30 today. I’m used to seeing Maurice Hammond’s a/c in these parts but markings didn’t appear to match either. It looked a bit more like Jumping Jacques but I thought that this wasn’t yet airbourne after engine work. Any thoughts?
Splendid! Thanks for that info.
Slightly delayed post – Catalina flew over Pettaugh (Mid-Suffolk) at 14:00 today heading East. Any ideas where it was heading, or just out for a jolly in the sunshine?
Assuming all progresses well next week, can anyone shed any light on what time Sally B flypast at Horham on Sunday 17th is scheduled for?
Thanks to BBMF site I know that they are due at 15.10.
Was wondering what the distinct merlin sound that I heard near Woodbridge today was. Had thought it might be Carolyn Grace out of Bentwaters.
Did one of them look a bit like this? (subject to some hideous image deterioration through cropping I’m afraid- something about upload size limit, blah, blah, blah.)
Spoke to Don Brooks on Saturday morning. He said depart Monday for Coventry, then on to Prestwick from there. Not sure if this meant an overnight at Coventry or just a brief stop.
Hope this helps.
