Wasn’t it down to needing the land for war production???

Helicopters come under the same rules but it is perfectly legal to fly at 10 feet above the ground provided you are at least 500′ from anyone. Your not best placed for an emergency but it can be great fun.
Think i might have one, wont be able to confirm until later in the week though.
I think it was during the battles around Calais in 1944 when an Auster had control of the biggest amount of Artillary to date, and earned its place as being the most heavily armed aircraft of WW2.

Thanks for the tips, i’ll try LAS on Monday morning. Basically Egyption tape is a kind of cotton fabric 1″ tape for binding parts together, I’m sure there are many modern substitutes but i’d like to keep it original.
Whats a realistic price?? Seems like an interesting project.
Top tip, drive in the opposite direction to Public parking routes, apart from a 5 minute que i drove straight in.
Fantastic, Thanks very much… That helps no end and tally’s with the crew photo with Wickenby written on the back.
It’s deffo not off a mk5 J series auster as far as i know. Cant say if it’s off a later version but i doubt it.
I dont think any aircraft carriers were involved on DDAY. I know several auster Squadrons went through carrier landing training in Scotland prior to the invasion to be used in the AOP role but it never happened….. Apparently the common joke was to ask the carrier captain to slow down so that they could catch it up and land.
Off subject but another hiden gem is the Atlantic wall museum on the South side of Ostend, i didnt expect it to be much but it takes aleast 2 hours to walk around the first and second war coastal defences….. Deffo worth a visit.
Schloss Marianburg i think, South of Hannover in the BAOR sector, quite a famous landmark during the cold war.
What exactly does it show the position of? Surely it should show up to the 12 o’clock position if to referance the direction the gun is facing in relation to the aircraft?
