I do not get hurt or angry easily but as someone who has been a pilot, a very keen aviation enthusiast and met many of the Red Arrows team I find it pathetic, galling and insensitive that you chose to open this thread today.

Please have some respect for a young man the late Flt Lt Jon Egging, his brave widow Dr Emma Egging and the team who have performed so well for so many years that one accident (the details of which none of us, least of all you, have any technical facts on as yet) cannot be used by you to stir up any issues on the demise of the Red Arrows which only the MOD and RAF have any decision powers on.

Also consider that this young life that has been lost may have in his amazing way stayed with his stricken aircraft until he knew it would not affect many civilian homes in his path. Once the inquiry is complete he may be recommended for an award for his extreme bravery and self sacrifice.

The aspects of whether or not the Red Arrows enable or enhance sales of UK built aircraft is irrelevant as I do not believe that is the primary objective of the display team.

Nor is whether formation and similar aerobatic flying is a necessary part of modern aerial military flying is also irrelevant as what it does test is extreme skill, teamwork and trust of the highest order and quality.

There are many aerobatic display teams in the world of which the Red Arrows are the most famous and it is hardly likely that all nations will stop their aerobatic teams.

In stating similar facts – wing walking is an irrelvant method of people travelling by air but it is performed and enjoyed by many enthusiasts.

F1 racing cars are hardly what people purchase and drive to work but it is again a sport enjoyed by the entire world, highly skilled, dangerous but fun.

By the same token are you advocating the world stop enjoying similar activities to aerobatics, F1 racing and extreme sports?

You sound a real kill joy.

The Red Arrows are the RAF’s shining examples of what good pilots can achieve an example for many aspiring pilots to look up to and we that admire them wish to ideally keep them idolised.

Jim, when you purchased that 2nd hamster for the leccy gen

Jim, when you purchased that 2nd hamster for the leccy generating hamster wheel you thought you’d cracked it. It turned out the 2nd hamster was a female and not a male as the pet shop guy suggested.
There’s your problem less leccy as the hamsters are canoodling more than operating the wheel.:D
More likely your entire street has heard what a wonderful forum this is and they are all logging in.:)

On a serious note it will probably sort itself out in the next 24 hours once the tech guys have a scrutiny.

Let’s salute not just the fallen but a truly magnanimous widow

Let’s salute not just the fallen but a truly magnanimous widow to pay such a wonderful tribute to her husband at a moment of such intense grief for her.

Dr Emma Egging, the wife of Flt Lt Jon Egging said:

“Jon was everything to those that knew him, and he was the best friend and husband I could ever have wished for. I know that he would have wanted me to say something from the heart at this time. There was nothing bad about Jon. He loved his job and was an exemplary pilot. Watching him today, I was the proudest I’ve ever been. I loved everything about him, and he will be missed.”

    Truly gracious words.

A truly sad day and at the end of the display too.

A truly sad day and at the end of the display too.
My heart jumped a beat when the BBC news at work this afternoon reported this and showed footage and at that time I watched for an ejection but none was to be seen in the BBC footage.
As my colleague at work said “The Reds are the World’s Best pilots”

The worst is confirmed on getting home.

And the world today has lost one of it’s best pilots.

My condolences to those bereaved and may you RIP Flt Lt Jon Egging – Red 4.

The tributes are flooding in from seniors in the RAF.

Moment rioters attack man with fire extinguisher caught on CCTV

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/-moment-rioters-attack-man-with-fire-extinguisher-caught-on-cctv.html (video and report)

“A shocking CCTV clip of a man being attacked with a fire extinguisher by dozens of rioters has featured on Crimewatch.

As Met Police officers scour 20,000 hours of CCTV footage to track down rioters and looters, this video is the latest to show the extreme lawlessness to hit the streets of the capital last week.

During the brief footage captured around 10.20pm last Monday, the suited man is forced by hooded looters to empty his pockets.

The bystander then appears to try and defend the Carphone Warehouse store in Clapham Junction before one of the yobs blasts him in the face with a fire extinguisher, drenching him in foam.

Using the extinguisher, the mob then smash the window of the phone shop and ransack it.
Police are now appealing for the victim in the footage to come forward.

According to the NHS, chemicals from a fire extinguisher may be harmful if swallowed or inhaled causing irritation of the skin, eyes, respiratory and gastrointestinal organs.

Do you recognise anyone? If you have any information contact the Metropolitan Police incident room on 0208 345 4142. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

If you haven’t already seen the ghastly footage of the scooter rider attacked and his scooter riden off by a rioter? If not the video at URL

Hollywood can stop making horror movies and use the footage of these and more to come I am sure and pay royalties in to a victims’ support and building/business restoration fund.
