Hear hear – bring some manufacturing to the West
Jay. Q1. No point in making said electric vehicles make Brum, Brum, noises, as your own car engine drowns their leccy vehicles motors out.
We need to slow the purchasing from China and the USA and slow their productions down, which with India, are the largest emmission culprits in the world. And why havn’t they signed the Kyoto treaty, We are but a very small island our part we have done, (been conned into doing) is very negligable.
IMHO. it,s a gigantic method of filling the Tax Coffers.
If they were all that bothered, then every aircraft, commercial, military, anything with wings and and engine would be taxed to the hilt.

Hear, Hear, bring back some manufacturing to the West (yes may cost us to buy but better as we can be discerning). Stop worrying about a new mobile phone every week with (make tea, coffee, check on neighbour’s behaviour features) , a new car with plastic moulded features to make it look different every year, and all the other consumer rubbish filling the high street which in reality we don’t need for life to be happy.
Who buys this garbage – the younger than us generations – who in reality don’t care a ‘toss’ about us, themselves or society at large (never mind ‘green’). It’s all a laugh to spend a lot of disposable money on rubbish and injest and consume concoctions from nightclubs (work what’s that?).
Yes we are and have done our ‘bit’ for ‘green’ but as you say are being conned while 90% of the world are producing more carbon emission in a year than we do in 10 years.

Maybe that is what DrPepper did bought a sensible ‘Warbird’ and he’s in ‘bliss’.:D

Jim in the good old days – a simple firm visit by the local beat officer is all …
Jay. There are several Laws they could have used to shut this guy up, but once again, idleness has taken over.
I recon we aught to adopt the USAs way of the mayor of the town electing the Chief of Police, as such, he can be sacked at any time during his time of office, Just look at the two Senior officers just been bailed for fraud, and these are top guys, who are supposed to instill confidence not only in their subordinates but members of the public. Whats the betting they retire with a huge pension prior to Court proceedings?.
Therefore charges being dropped.

Jim in the good old days – a simple firm visit by the local beat officer is all it would have taken. Yes they did do that but the said Toerag Chippie is so anti social that he forgets that in Morningside there are a very large number of older people (nice citizens) who slip and fall on his iced up chips. (NHS with that never ending budget pick up tab of course) And most of all clean up the mess outside before closing the shop at night.
I was accused of trying to put him out of business – on the contrary he should resolve to being a good citizen in a neighbourhood that retires behind their doors at night and stop staying open late into the night and improve his business to pizza (which he already sells) and salads etc during the day. Thereby leaving nocturnal creatures from nightclubs to be at the mercy of the law if they wish to be out rather than at home with their parents.
The irony is that twice the Toe-rag Chippie has tried to push me off the street into traffic, (once in the middle of the pedestrian crossing and the other when my back was to the traffic on the pavement). One of his Arabic speaking ‘black’ pizza delivery driver flouts all the parking regulations (Double Yellow – “No Loading Anytime”) followed immediately by white zig zags protecting pedestrian crossing. And wait for it, I am walking down the pavement from Uni and the idiot pizza delivery driver without so much as looking reverses rapidly into the one way street behind him and just by a second (of my halting my progress) does he avoid killing me with his battered old vehicle. This happened twice. Plate number, vehicle description all supplied both to the Council and Police – no action. Even yesterday the same driver was happily at 7.15 pm and again at 9.55 pm parked on the prohibited lines.
Through all this I have not uttered one word to the Chippie or his drivers as then they will claim they are being victimised.
The Italian Chippie had until not so long ago a ‘sleezeball’ Arab Pizza chef who used to flagrantly chant to customers “Kill Bush, Kill Bush, Kill Bush” (when Pres. Bush was in power). Police told and given description but no problem the guy is allowed freedom of speech offensive to others in a Christian country.
All his pizza delivery drivers, and other obviously radical muslims (wearing Arabic scarves and speaking in Arabic ) gather in the street outside the chip and pizza shop whenever David Cameron speaks out on something controversial on the ME. It’s obviously a focus for anti social a.se.oles.
I even wrote to the Chief Inspector who two years running has read a lesson at the Episcopalian Cathedral’s Annual Carol Service (where I am a member). Nothing happening.

We all must think about the future 🙂
I am reminded by the same colleague that supposedly in last months IEEE journal there is an article on “3D printing – integrating electronic and power systems in the airframe”.
Presently I am searching for the same article as IEEE have so many journals (ie subsets)

General questions arise with respect to Electric cars
General questions arise with respect to Electric cars –
1. Soundless hazard – can be overcome by artificial (brrrm) sounds
2. Charging points other than at home, possibly at special vending stations (but obviously spark hazard prohibits these being at conventional petrol stations)
3. Production of these vehicles and batteries consume energy much of it electricity
4. Energy is surely lost in the charging process – it isn’t a 100% efficient transfer of energy from electrical charging point to battery
5. While we are making these noble token gestures at energy savings in the West, the developing nations are using energy galore (to satisfy our insatiable need for consumer items, including these electric cars and batteries). Therefore can our feeble attempts actually do anything in saving the planet?

During the 60s in Maidstone many people were struck by Trolleybuses as you couldn’t hear them coming.
I couldn’t agree more re the “Silent Assasin” approach, I find the elderly who have these electric Mobility Scooters. There is a wall all around my house, which ends at the pavement. The car, HD1 or HD2 has to be at least halfway past the end of the wall before I can see clearly both ways. There is one woman, who has one of these vehicles, who must travel just beneath the Sound Barrier, you just cant hear them coming. I was unaware, they don’t even need Insurance, so if you were hit by one of these “Silent Assasins” and were left unable to work for several months,You would most certainly be in the proverbial.

Jim,
Since these silent assasins are hopefully older people (mostly considerate I hope) in silent runabouts cannot the same logic they are applying to silent cars be applied to these motability scoooters?
Namely the battery power can be used to make some sort of sensible constant alert/awareness sounds when moving (Clippety clop, ting ting, brrrmm, )

This is me thinking aloud – a former colleague has reminded me that…
This is me thinking aloud – a former colleague has reminded me that in the early 1990s at my R&D establishment (non aerospace) use of 3D printing to produce specific prototypes was ongoing and common using some of the then most advanced CAD systems.
I wonder if in the future they will consider blending into the actual structure, ie fuselage equivalent and wing equivalent of a drone/UAV/UCAV the PCBs, Silicon chips and such like as it would simply be layers of the correct material put through the 3D printing process at once.
If so just imagine the saving in weight, hence saving in engine power and as already stated in the New Scientist article they could build specific bespoke drones/UAVs for specific missions and theatres of operation.
End of thinking aloud.:D

Jim just before your little sojourn with the lap dancers (I mean nurses) you promised to start digging if we hadn’t heard back from DrPepper a week back Friday. I believe the likely ground was Wales.
Should a search and rescue/dig be started?;)
Rather than dig, come in DrPepper we are all dying to know your exploits;)

You didn’t see my specific F35 CVs which the carrier variant
You didn’t see my specific F35 CVs which the carrier variant.
To my knowledge the F35 CV has hit snags/delays (usual government funding) and Rolls Royce along with their American partner are funding the progress development of the RR Lift Fan (originally used in the Harrier) for the F35 CV.
By the time she floats/commissioned (2020), by the RN there will either be F35 CVs or equivalent drones, UAVs, UCAVs along with helicopters to be on board.
BAE are in the F35 program in a big way but are likewise hamstrung without an engine for the F35 CV.
