I’m lucky my wifes old Skoda Fabia estate car has parking sensors already fitted. for some reason my big Dodge Avenger lacks them , so I have to KNOW how big my car is. !!

However reversing a double deckker ( Banksman or not ) can be quite an experience!!

Mike, re thread 52, you missed a blinder, ever watched a woman try and park, where you and I, and a trained Chimp could get into a space?. As you will be aware, just purchased Mini Cooper for my wife a few weeks ago now, and the times I have had to get out of the car to “Assist” her to park, has peed me off so much, just for a quiet life, am getting parking sensors fitted to it. Jeeze, if you can’t park a mini, give up driving.:rolleyes:

Jay, Perchance they may well be having a disagreement with their other half, and by shouting loud enough think they will win the battle.
Just think of how many Sea battles have been won, not by 1st Raters, but 5th and 6th raters. Big, Loud is not always best way forward.;)

That bit about thinking that by raising your voice you will win the argument brought to mind something the Ex’s Gran always told us to bear in mind. If you end up shouting at each other neither of you is listening.

I’m going to do a bit of trumpet blowing!!! If you spent 3 weeks on a PCV driving course ( like me ) taken your PCV theory test & passed ( like me ) Passed your PCV test ( Like me )& driven an assortment of PCV vehicles on municipal routes ( like me ) including double deckers with 14 litre twin turbo engines , 42 ft long & 9 ft wide & 14 ft high . ( cost £143.000 ) Then you would see the actual **** poor standard of driving that has recently occured in the UK. Drivers no longer seem to have have any conception of speed & distance in relation to other drivers. No idea of exactly what is going on around them , & how to react to it !! No idea of the capability or size of their own vehicle . ( not going through gaps I could get a Challenger tank through–or trying to get a Range Rover through a gap you couldnt get a Kia Picanto through). Using traffic islands as halt signs , instead of carefully filtering into the flow ( were safe to do so) . Drivers who seem to find it impossible to get away swiftly from a a green traffic light.yada ..yada …yada … Everybody should be forced to take a PCV test ..then some of you may just get the hang of this driving nonsense!!

Any test other than a car test as all the failings you pointed out are automatic fails on anything other than a car test it seems. As for the choice of gapsit comesdown to the fact that like you say many vehicle aimers (I refuse to call them drivers) have no appreciation of the size and capability of their vehicle.
I think that between you, Daz and myself we have managed to list just about all the failings possible in a pointer of vehicles.

If everyone was required to take a PCV test, perhaps last weekend’s occurrence would not have happened…

I was driving my bus (preserved ’73 Leopard), and was in the process of taking a v. tight LH turn… I had “closed the junction down” in order to make the necessary wide turn, when a “motorised pram” (Smartcar, with a not-so-smart driver) decided to squeeze up my nearside.

Some road users simply do not have the first clue when encountering large vehicles.

You know, there is a bit of me that wants to go through a HGV course. It is a bit pricey to do on a whim for the laugh, and not actually needing to do it. Mind you, at the price it cost me to add Cat B+E I could have done it for not a great deal extra.

The other is the people who drive at 10-20 mph below the speed limit not because there is any safety considerations to make it necessary but because that is the speed they have chosen to drive at.

And this, for me. Happens all too often on the road from Penicuik to Peebles (and vice versa). Made all the worse when some bloody Italian bloke decides that my trying to overtake him because he’s bloody plodding along is an invitation for him to try and RACE me.

Cue a severe BTM when I spot a car rounding the oncoming bend, and the Italian bloke STILL hasn’t let me past…. 😡

My two pet gripes both concern motorists. The first is the people who lack situational awarenes and consequently fail to make the gap they have chosen in the crossing traffic at roundabouts/junctions or don’t take the opportunity to get oout when they can. The other is the people who drive at 10-20 mph below the speed limit not because there is any safety considerations to make it necessary but because that is the speed they have chosen to drive at. When I did my HGV 1 course I would have failed foreither of them under the ‘Failure to make progress where progress cansafely be made’ clause. To the best of my kknowledge the car test is the only one where the examiner will not invoke that clause to fail people when it is obviosly required.

Agencies.

They are a bunch of assclowns.

They ring you up with the promise of work – then expect you to start the very next day. At a location which is in the middle of nowhere, and your satnav can’t find it.

Of course, that’s providing they can even get your basic details correct in the first place. I mean, my National Insurance number is easy enough to read when PRINTED on a form, so how the hell have they got it wrong??

It beggars belief that I ask these people to find me work, yet they can’t get my own details correct!!

Well Baz, I am sure you missed a few dozen, go on, just push yourself. A lot has changed since then.:p

I say a resounding YES this. I noticed that when I reached 65, people treat you like a second class citizen.
Now at 70, (I know I am not the oldest member on here) things seem to me to have gone all Pear shaped, I may be next in the queue, but last as far as the shop assistants are required.
Threre are many, many instances I could give you as examples, but one day, I hope you live lone enough to find out that life is not too kindly off towards the elderly.

Parents of little kids , who let them Scream in supermarkets…

The only other option being to give in to them having as much chocolate/sweets/toys as they want, we try and keep the little one quiet but it’s not always possible and it is not always an option to leave them at home either.

Highly embarrassing though.

Agree about phones, in cars is annoying but even more so is when out for a meal and friends either need to check texts, make calls and that is during a course. But I do get complaints that my phone is either dead, off or silent, I forget it for days on end, try using something called a landline to get hold of me, I do get a signal on that all the time!

And parking in disabled spaces is just lazy, almost as bad are people who park in parent and child spaces but the child is 15.

I did take great delight in watching someone who was too lazy to park further away from the gym and proceeded to park in one of the parent spaces reserved for the nursery and those picking up their kids. Watched this lady spend ages getting out of the car, faffing about etc and then politely told her that she had parked in a space for parents, some muttering and nasty looks from her until I pointed out that she couldn’t clearly see the markings as she’d parked on top of them. Glad to say the car was moved but why are people who go to the gym so lazy?

In this day and age of engineering marvels and wonders of science,surly we can have a design that stops the little spray you get when you open one of these things.

Airfix kits that refuse to glue together! I’ve just abandoned a grandson to the damn E-Type Jag, whose suspension refuses to remain attached! Grrrr.. 😡

Does being old count as a disability? You’d think so round here, they park in the disabled spots, with no blue badge or any obvious disability.

Non disabled drivers who park in disabled parking slots!!

One of my hates,being a blue badge holder and I am in pain with every step I take!

If the driver has just arrived and refuses to move. I ask them if they have a footpump to reinflate their tyres,they usually move then!:)

If the Driver is not present I unclip their windscreen wipers and hang them from their drivers mirror.

I could go on but I wont.
