Victor Meldrew

Well, I guess it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t put something controversial on here, so, We all have a gripe, we all have a Victor Meldrew in us, Should you have the misfortune of being him, what would your gripe be, everything and anything accepted.Only criteria is that it has to be a genuine gripe, that most if not all of us have, or would agree on.

I don’t advocate everything our transatlantic cousins do but….

I don’t advocate everything our transatlantic cousins do but they seem to use domestic waste disposal units (Tweenies).

Very popular there – not very common here – reasons I am apologetic but don’t know.

Maybe it’s because their drains are bigger in handling capacity – like all things American:D

Tweenies can considerably reduce the waste the useless bureaucratic Councils in the UK have to cope with. Wonder what would happen if they were dis-allowed Council offices and chairs to sit on would that help them get out and solve more urban and rural issues? Probably not as they’d take permanent sick leave I guess and do nothing as normal.

Hi Don, It’s about time guys of our age started to fight back, and even a simple thing like myself and Lance have done, could just be the start of a Crusade, (Although I don’t want to be one of the Knights Templar, as Friday 13th could turn out unlucky), but we have all in this Country sat on our 6s and let the Authorities run riot over us, with silly simple things, eg, Wheeley bins for a start.
Anyone any bright ideas, as to how we could get some things changed, simply by annoying the authorities to the point they cave in?.

Jim – yes the local MSP a friend and local Councillor also a friend

Jim – yes the local MSP a friend and local Councillor also a friend are well in on the loop.

I must write to the Chief Inspector again as he in fact is a sincere man who tries to empower his teams that are responsible for local aspects.

Pardon the pun but it’s this ‘PC’ nonsense that make rules that us locals have to adhere to rigidly but the ‘newcomers’ are allowed to ride rough shod over us and the rules.

Scotland in particular in trying to be welcoming to every Tom, Dick and Harry are making it much harder than in England for the law to be administered.

The irony is that this ‘being nice’ is putting most of these newcomers on the ‘black’ economy and in ghettos – hence the proliferation of tax evasion and crime. BTW the Chippie is Italian and has been in Scotland for more than 40 years so he has no excuse apart from being an anti social thug.

They will learn in time (when a Norway like incident occurs or worse) but of course that may be after I am dead.

Morning Jay, May sound silly but to me he is playing the Race Card, have you ever thought of putting it into writinng, or speaking to your local M.P. ?. Mine is pretty good, he has had a few Broadsides from me, and they all end up at Westminister in the appropriate Ministers Office.
I am afraid I can’t just sit on my 6, and do nothing but moan about things, we have let things slide too far too long in G.B.

Jim in the good old days – a simple firm visit by the local beat officer is all …

Jay. There are several Laws they could have used to shut this guy up, but once again, idleness has taken over.
I recon we aught to adopt the USAs way of the mayor of the town electing the Chief of Police, as such, he can be sacked at any time during his time of office, Just look at the two Senior officers just been bailed for fraud, and these are top guys, who are supposed to instill confidence not only in their subordinates but members of the public. Whats the betting they retire with a huge pension prior to Court proceedings?.
Therefore charges being dropped.

Jim in the good old days – a simple firm visit by the local beat officer is all it would have taken. Yes they did do that but the said Toerag Chippie is so anti social that he forgets that in Morningside there are a very large number of older people (nice citizens) who slip and fall on his iced up chips. (NHS with that never ending budget pick up tab of course) And most of all clean up the mess outside before closing the shop at night.

I was accused of trying to put him out of business – on the contrary he should resolve to being a good citizen in a neighbourhood that retires behind their doors at night and stop staying open late into the night and improve his business to pizza (which he already sells) and salads etc during the day. Thereby leaving nocturnal creatures from nightclubs to be at the mercy of the law if they wish to be out rather than at home with their parents.

The irony is that twice the Toe-rag Chippie has tried to push me off the street into traffic, (once in the middle of the pedestrian crossing and the other when my back was to the traffic on the pavement). One of his Arabic speaking ‘black’ pizza delivery driver flouts all the parking regulations (Double Yellow – “No Loading Anytime”) followed immediately by white zig zags protecting pedestrian crossing. And wait for it, I am walking down the pavement from Uni and the idiot pizza delivery driver without so much as looking reverses rapidly into the one way street behind him and just by a second (of my halting my progress) does he avoid killing me with his battered old vehicle. This happened twice. Plate number, vehicle description all supplied both to the Council and Police – no action. Even yesterday the same driver was happily at 7.15 pm and again at 9.55 pm parked on the prohibited lines.

Through all this I have not uttered one word to the Chippie or his drivers as then they will claim they are being victimised.

The Italian Chippie had until not so long ago a ‘sleezeball’ Arab Pizza chef who used to flagrantly chant to customers “Kill Bush, Kill Bush, Kill Bush” (when Pres. Bush was in power). Police told and given description but no problem the guy is allowed freedom of speech offensive to others in a Christian country.

All his pizza delivery drivers, and other obviously radical muslims (wearing Arabic scarves and speaking in Arabic ) gather in the street outside the chip and pizza shop whenever David Cameron speaks out on something controversial on the ME. It’s obviously a focus for anti social a.se.oles.

I even wrote to the Chief Inspector who two years running has read a lesson at the Episcopalian Cathedral’s Annual Carol Service (where I am a member). Nothing happening.

Hi Don. I am very serious, when I say it’s about time folks of our age did something to make those in authority realise, that we at our age are no different to a 20, 30 yrs old. I am sick and tired of seeing how elderly folk, who made this Country what it was a few decades ago, the crap Country it is now,Not only that, but I am besides myself with “Top Consultants” when I was on the ward last week, who command silly money, but who end EVERY sentance with the word ENNIT. . I swear, next time I see him, I am going to ask him to repeat the Hipocratic Oath he took, if he cant remember it, he can move along.
Whats the point, your just classed as a moaning old git, and thats why no one listens.

Lance, what a brilliant idea, I didn’t realise you were a fully paid up member of the V.M.. fan club.

Unfortunately the Kebab shop comes before the nearest P.O. box.

Today, I collected 9 of these cartons, flattened them, went up town, and put them all through the Kebab shops letterbox.

I have a strategy for dealing with the endless leaflets from pizza shops, kebab houses, fried chicken emporia and the like that pour through one’s letterbox.

Every so often, I collect a number of them together, place them in an envelope addressed to one of the aforementioned establishments chosen at random, write “URGENT” on the front of the envelope in clear red capitals and then place in a postbox….. WITHOUT a stamp.

It can be oddly comforting. 🙂

You should come to ‘sunny’ Morningside

It would appear, according to National statistics my small Market Town has the most takeaways than any other Town in England, I can tell you that the contents of a takeaway carton last the eater immediately to my driveway from the local Kebab shop. Today, I collected 9 of these cartons, flattened them, went up town, and put them all through the Kebab shops letterbox.

You should come to ‘sunny’ Morningside. Every fast food outlet closes by 10.30 pm or 11 pm but oh no this Italian Chippie (very questionable fire in the mid 1980s – it was de chip fryer the Italian owner said – more like de insurance fryer)

Anyway what does he do? Stays open until when ever he likes. No local soul patronises the place late at night but he stays open until the wee hours of the morning. Why you may ask? The night clubbers in the city and who are too drunk to get the night bus home, refused by taxis walk home to miles away passing this late night dive.

End result, rubbish bin pushed in front of our gate (used as late night picnic table by revellers), chips and sauce all over our gate, all over the entrance path, all over the pavement and late at night we even have foxes and mice/rats scrabbling about. In the winter the chips freeze on the pavement and down I have gone twice on the oily ice.

Council helpless as he simply ignores them. All the other shops keep their pavement clean but Oh no not this Italian (he claims ‘connections’), he is a law unto himself in an otherwise peaceful Morningside.

He hurled half an hour of rank filth at me during the afternoon on the 31 Dec 2010. Why again you may ask? I was washing my drive/path within my boundary of all the grit, snow and rubbish in time for seeing the New Year in. Police dispatcher heard most of the one way/one sided abuse on the phone while I called them and her advice was that I should withdraw and lock my door (Why in damnation you may ask again? he wants to be an Italian Thug and sh.te, and I have to withdraw; but the young lady was thinking about my safety. Police did attend but seem fairly helpless against the Italian sh.te.)

Mike, re thread 52, you missed a blinder, ever watched a woman try and park, where you and I, and a trained Chimp could get into a space?. As you will be aware, just purchased Mini Cooper for my wife a few weeks ago now, and the times I have had to get out of the car to “Assist” her to park, has peed me off so much, just for a quiet life, am getting parking sensors fitted to it. Jeeze, if you can’t park a mini, give up driving.

I have just purchased an electric toothbrush. It came in a box big enough to contain a chain saw. Not only that, when I got the outer wrapping off and the box open, I was stunned at the amount of packing inside. I actually said “I don”t bloody believe it” How many trees were sacrificed to make this simple item appear to be worth 30 pounds……..

A.S. When on the job, I had, using a Landrover, have to tow the nearly 40 foot mobile incident unit, ie, the mobile control centre, not altogether easy to park up, and no way could I do that nowadays.
