What doesn’t help is that two types of film appear to be used. The second one is ortho (very faded blue reproduction) and going on the similarity in hue with the red of the roundel and tail stripe I’d go with red/white checkers. The first appear to be pan and the only red in the pic that can be seen is the underwing and to my eye it appears to be the same intensity as the dark checks on the fuselage, so again I’d go with red/white.

I concur fully (film comments as well) – definitely red and white. As for the mouth – based on the upper image, I’m going with black inside the mouth while the outer cowling areas appear to have ‘streaky’ application of green/brown.

Thanks for the input Mark… I’ve been beside myself for the last few days perusing these issues… and quite honestly, I’m amazed at the print quality and the manner in which these have stood the test of time… complete with loose-leaf inserts (see attached – this from Part 11). For a ‘bunch’ of loose ‘mags’ almost 40 years old, the colour has not faded and the quality of the photography is simply amazing. I don’t know when the ‘coin’ changed in the UK, but Parts 1-9 were priced at 4’6, and thereafter (10 to 16 as I hold) were 22 1/2 P (4’6)

By the time Part 13 comes around, there is a greater credits ‘boilerplate’ inside the front page which states… (a few names I am familiar with)

The T-6s with the blue-orange-black roundels are from the Gabon Presidential Guard. There is even a Heller 1/72 kit of an overall dark blue T-6 with these markings. Strangest kit markings I have ever seen.

Pardon my ignorance (I ran through that link and found none of the Blue/orange/black roundels), but please please post a link to the Presidential Guard T-6 photos. I’ve built the Heller kit – and have a copy of the instructions – just have yet to see a photo of those markings

Tamil Eelam wreckage from today’s news…

Here are a picture and a profile…. whereas the picture appears to show only dark green on top. It appears that the light-gray undersides are accurate, but the aircraft may be overall green. Drop tanks look to be a light color, maybe the underside color, or perhaps natural metal.

Not sure how old the pic is, but that MiG-15UTI is grey… something in the warm mid-tones – perhaps close to FS 36231 (and judging by the ‘highlight’ on the cannon fairing, that colour is a complete all-over grey. the tanks are aluminum and the wing/stab/fin tips and intake lip are day-glow orange-ish (some would call it day-glo red) somewhere around FS 38903.

I’m a wee bit out of date on the handbooks, but I’ll stick with the Jane’s recognition guides – (I haven’t seen any more recent editions than the ’96 edition) and I didn’t like how they rearranged the categories in that one… but, apparently the An-2 and Cessna Caravan fell into the same ‘twin engined’ category along side the Beriev Be-32 and Canadair CL-415… go figure. (1992s ‘5th edition’ had far better execution)

and speaking of the Salamanders… Barry Wheeler’s ‘Aircraft Markings’ is still only inches away on my desk with the dictionaries and thesaurus. (although I have compiled my own little updated reference file/database on the ‘puter.)

    contrailjj-

As an informed taxpayer would you entertain the idea of modernized Tornadoes? Or would you entertain the option of buying Eurocanards over the F-35?

quite honestly, I personally would prefer a modernized Tornado… Canada does not require a ‘stealthy’ whatever – and can ill afford to be buying any of such technology in any quantity that might make the price-tag ‘reasonable’. Add that to the fact that a single engined fighter of any type over this country makes no sense at all.

If the F-35 purchase is to go ahead, I’d rather see it cut to perhaps 45 units with an immediate investment in perhaps 35 to 40 Super Bugs for the near-term to augment the A/Bs we are currently upgrading.

woah there… slow down a wee bit. (and since it is MY country, I’m going off a bit here…)

Super Bug – yes! as an informed CANADIAN taxpayer I’m more in favour of it instead of F-35.

Anyone shouting F-22 for Canada should get their facts straight first! One… (as in the number 1, quantity 1) one single F-22 would empty the Canadian defence (yes we spell it with a ‘c’) budget. (period).

As for all these ‘threats’ being tossed about… where is this ‘information’ coming from??? has anyone even asked any one of us who lives here? 😡

Disputed borders with the US??? sorry, but the NW passage IS Canadian waters – we may disagree over this but we are both allied in our mutual Arctic sovereignty (NORAD)
    Conflict with Russia???
oh, and I’m sure we’re gonna go ‘toe-to-toe’ with the Danes real soon!!
and while we’re at it we’re also going to smack France around over 2 rocks in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

Hell, has anyone thought about the priority of putting into service a future multi-role aircraft that can provide Close-air support for our ground troops?? Or maybe we should buy a Chinese or Russian ‘paper’ interceptor…
