One fifty per litre??? – oh, and sorry for the trans-Atlantic interruption – thats $3(CDN)!!… and I though we had it bad with the prices here fluctuating between $0.99 and $1.15 (in my area at least – I can’t speak for the rest of the country).. then again – we don’t have any viable system in place to take the drivers out of the vehicles.

what happened to the proposed NATO purchase… being that they would be Luxembourg-registered, would that not count as ‘another’ nation?

other than that, I feel that Sweden will order 2 perhaps even 4, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the UK went for 2 more.

Tenuous situation… I personally cannot see the ‘new’ state ever being able to field a ‘full’ military – perhaps a ‘paramilitary’ organization. Most likely in my view, the air assets will be a dozen UH-1s (as already mentioned) and perhaps 6 Jet Rangers donated by a particularly large influential (non-European) nation.

Regarding markings, well, the new flag is certainly uninspiring (from an non-Kosovan point of view)

I want to say mmmm… I want to say wow… basically I’m speachless – that is truly one amazing piece of work… my compliments to all involved… what a true labour of love and amazing to see in real-life colour – seeing this is like having a window into the past.

Only yesterday my Dad said to me ‘we have to make another visit to Trenton soon’… (even though his brother lives in Trenton, Dad’s still focused on seeing the completed Hali)

Please explain what part(s) have been photoshopped!

Not a ‘real modifiaction’ of the aircraft… it’s the blatant plagarism/theft/rebranding of someone else’s work… The Getty watermark is still visible on the fuselage (see attached) as well as on the fin.

When I visited in 2006 and was fortunate enough to get around the new storage hall at Ottawa, I asked my guide specifically about this airframe.
He did not recognise it as an airfame they had there, although I did find a pair of wings propped up against the wall, I never found the fuselage pod. I can only assume its stored in some inaccesable corner there or its in a different location.
A pity as it was one I really wanted to find and photograph for the site.

Perhaps one of our Canadian contingent can shed more light as to its whereabouts ?

Sorry, no pics of TG372 yet…

I can only offer this little tidbit… quoting from Larry Milberry’s Canada’s Air Force at War and Peace (Volume 3)…

“Little is known of TG372 since it left RCAF Winter Experimental Establishment around 1948-50. … (Eventually TG372, Canada’s most historic Vampire, ended with the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa, but to 2001 remained in storage as a basket case.)”

As for Bruce’s question regarding Canadian heritage… TG372 was the RCAF’s first Vampire – so certainly an important part of the heritage of the Canadian Air Force.

    2 more…

Vampire I… TG372(RAF) Canada Aviation Museum (Ottawa)

“Shipped to Canada for cold weather trials and serving with the RCAF, the Museum specimen subsequently passed to the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, before being transferred to the Museum in 1968.”

Vampire III… 17074 (RCAF) Canada Aviation Museum (Ottawa)

“Manufactured in 1948, this Vampire served with RCAF fighter squadrons and an operational training unit until stored in 1956. It was transferred to the Museum in 1964.”

Quoted info from the Museum’s web site

    even better???

sorry – the first was farrrrrr better.. almost every linear inch of runway for takeoff vs. only landings on an as yet to be disclosed length of ice runway (ice or not I don’t care – I’ve seen and dealt with enough ice over the last 4 months)… love it all!!! Vodka burner rolling… we have Smirnoff!

    Jim,

spotted that same photo of Hellsapoppin you described (same book on my shelf). There’s also 2 camouflaged examples depicted in another Dorval photo from 1942 in Canada’s Air Force at War and Peace (Vol 1) pages 156-157 – the nearer of the 2 appears to wear USAAC-style Green over Grey scheme with wavy demarcation – the distant aircraft appears to have a tarpaulin wrapped around the cockpit/nose area.

But what is the line of reference for application of the Ethiopian markings??? (he asks in vain) judging by the second photo, the aircraft would have to be sitting almost on its tail to have a vertical/horizontal reference line for the roundel. Please – any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

also in the theme of ‘Pilatus goes to war…’ albeit not trainers dropping bombs…

The PC-12M – USAF SOC U-28As light transports are, according to a Janes report, now active in Afghanistan
