The Namibian roundel/flag looks identical to the new Congolese one 😮
What’s the catch?
Well, it got my curiosity peaked, so I had to do a little hunting and then some cut and paste… I think what we’re seeing on the Helo is the Shield of the Namibian Air Force (not the roundel)
Attached , in this order…
Namibian Roundel
Namibian Defence Forces shield
Namibian Air Force shield (a quick cut and paste to illustrate only)
specifics or details but here’s a link to some nice shots…
Fantastic news Mike, I look forward to making a little side-trip over to Gatineau at some point this summer.

No need for apologies… we’ll leave that to several former governments to finally atone for their ‘misguidance’.
I wasn’t saying that the Hawk 115 wouldn’t make a nice mount.
I still find myself looking forward to any future mount and missing the ‘Tute’.. an all Canadian gem… and not too bad looking for an ‘old’ girl – geez… I’m close to their age and here I am calling them ‘old’… wait now, that makes us ‘classics’…
The Hawk Mk115 is pretty new. 😉
The USN operates hundreds of F-18 so a few more for the Blue Angels dont add much, but for the CAF (or Air Command  ) 9 or 6 Hornets do count.
I’ve mentioned here and elsewhere regarding the ‘Hawk-potential’… the biggest issue with the use of the Mk. 115 is that they don’t belong to the Forces… they are leased by a private contractor.
Regarding the Hornets… even fielding a 6-ship team, would require a very large financial boost to (most likely 410 Sqn) and the added factor of alientating the majority of pilots in the Forces. One must remember that up until now, the slots with the Team have been open to any winged officer in the Forces – whether you fly Hercs, Challengers, Hornets, Aurora, Seakings or Griffons. To field a ‘fast-jet’ team would not be, shall we say, ‘correct’.
Even the Swiss-Hawk proposal by Venga (as exceptionally tewmping as it seems) is loaded with political ‘landmines’ as there is bound to be a requirement to ‘slap’ a corporate logo on the team, and within the Forces, that is a ‘No Go’.
It all comes down to the money… and from what I’ve been told, there isn’t any for replacements for at least another 2 years.
and BTW… back to post number 3… thats not a Snowbirds paint job – thats the ‘house colours’ for AETE (Canadian equivalent to Raspberry Ripple) at 4 Wing Cold Lake… previously known for their red ‘X’s on 104 and Hornet tails in widely published photographs.

no cause reported yet, and the gov’t as of today is say ‘up to a year’ until any cause could be reported…
But, all the cockpit conversations will give a pretty definite cause sooner as opposed to later.
As I’ve posted in the ‘modern’ thread… Capt. McCaughey’s loss is a tragic event. My deepest condolences go out to Shawn’s family, friends and team-mates.
This incident is all the more poignant to me given my recently begun project… As alluded to in my initial post on the ‘What are you working on at home’ thread… I’m currently in the middle of updating/revising for reprint ‘A Tradition of Excellence – Canada’s Airshow Team Heritage’ by D.V. Dempsey.
I would like to pass along the following statement as forwarded to me by former Snowbirds CO Dan Dempsey…
“STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN SHAWN McCAUGHEY
May 19, 2007
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today on the death of a member of the Snowbirds aerial demonstration team, Captain Shawn McCaughey:
“It is with great sadness that I learned about the accident that took the life of a decorated and talented pilot.
Captain Shawn McCaughey served our country with distinction, honour and professionalism. On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, my deepest sympathy goes out to his family, friends and fellow team members during this difficult time.
Captain McCaughey was a highly skilled and experienced pilot who fulfilled the ultimate dream of joining our illustrious Snowbirds team. He was a positive role model and goodwill ambassador who truly personified the professionalism and dedication of all the women and men who make up our Canadian Forces. His family and friends can be proud of his accomplishments and contributions, as are all Canadians.
The Snowbirds are a world-renown aerial demonstration team and one of the most identifiable Canadian symbols. All Canadians take pride in their excellence and are forever grateful for the important work done by the Snowbirds and by all our military men and women.”

Love the Kuvi…
Denis, dear god… you’ve got the greatest ‘working on at home’ project on the go… pardon the phaseology, but my heart goes out to you!… I don’t envy you the bypass, but please accept my wishes for the very best work and recovery!
James
Right then… I own three sets of wings (RCAF/CAF… 2 of which have never been worn) and have owned 2 black Labradors which shed profusely in some general proximity of said wings…. so, whose wings should I be selling this week??
Cheers… (oh, who’s round was it??)

Damn!!… beaten to the cow again!!…
Nice piece of vid regardless… gotta love the nonchalant plucking of the iPod (or something) and whatever off the canopy…. total pro!
Now, which T-bird was that, is it recent?… I’m hoping its one of the 2 hotties (ladies)
I feel kinda being surpassed by you after all. Great pixs !! Strato.:diablo:
A poster-perfect thug stepping on top of a Chechen L-39C Albatross to assess the damage inflicted by a multiple wave of devastating russian airstrike packages during the course of the first chechen war, neutralising so effectively a vast majority of ostensible chechen air assets in a matter of days.:)
Colour Chechen L-39… Nice Find!!… I’ve only ever seen the marking in black and white on an L-29… and figured it was green, looks like my guess was right.
in print…
well I guess I can say it now (amongst family)…. coming very soon to a desk/keyboard very close to me… will be the amending/updating (prior to reprint) of a particularly large aerobatic team/airshow history type full colour book of the exceptionally thick, multi-paged Canadian variety… thats all I can say about that… for now..
In the meantime my aerobatic team profile illustrations keep coming along…. Sabres at the moment… anyone else heard f the ‘Arctic Gladiators’??
WOW!!
regardless of condition, I’m amazed…. I had no idea that that any Fulmar flew ‘post-war’. I’m really intrigued by the Vixen formation… any one else hace any input? It’s not in the time-frame fore ‘Simon’s Sircus’…
