my personal oldies
a couple great pieces which were gifts from my Grandmother to my uncle (RCAF) in 1941 (Warplane – cover and spread attached) and 1942 (How To Identify Aircraft – cover attached). And then more recent (1973) Volume 1 Number 1 of ‘Air Combat’ – cover attached – by Challenge Publications.
More ‘sweet’ bits abound (including most of my grandfather’s WWI documents – intake (1915), discharge (1919) and paybook (1918) included) but these are my all-time aviation favourites

is jealousy a bad thing?? really now, please don’t say its only in your back garden… is there a hope that it may fly someday?
still, I wish I had one in my back garden – so much better than staring at the snow.

I don’t want to sound like a whiner, but please… come on now – this one was over 5 years old, please start a new thread…
Frank, please – as a Mod – please do the honourable thing and lock this one.
C477 MiG-23ML
Beauty shot Flex, thank for that one – best shot I’ve seen in ages of the markings and positioning/attitude thereof.
Beech 18
I remember that night very well… 2 years out of college and thinking I was going to be king of the world.
The way the media had been covering it here – and of course “Senior’s” ‘deadlines’ – I’d already done the math (timezones) and had a rough idea when something would be ‘going down’.
I was working late at the office (19:00 ish) and in the time it took me to walk from the office to the parking garage (1 block) quite literally all hell had broken loose on B’dad.
Found out a year later that one of our clients was still owed a very large sum of $$$ for the Coms equipment that was on top of the building in the famous ‘elevator shaft’ LGB shot.
413 Sqn…
Currently 413 Transport and Rescue Sqn at 14 Wing Greenwood flying CC-130 Hercules and CH 149 Cormorant

sound is there – I had to crank the volume up to full and got a very quiet sound-track… nothing better than a bunch of the ‘good ole boys’ having a couple brews and playing with firepower.
Trans-Atlantic Hypothesis…
I just may be able to make it this year… that’s got to count for something… and I hope the beer is well stocked. 😀

‘Karas’ had a tail skid.. (and a somewhat ‘robust’ fixed undercarriage that would certainly still be somewhat eveident even after a burn out like this one)
I’m inclined to go with the ‘Battle’ assesment… especially due to the shape of the fuselage at the fin.

Ben. …
thanks for that… I was trying to lean my original coments in that direction but just couldn’t seem to find the wording. It was something that had fleetingly crossed my mind… that each of the ‘noted’ eras in the history of the Realm have all made considerable contributions to the lives and cultures that have been in that ‘orbit’. For some reason, I just can’t seem to ‘visualize’ my life having been lived in the ‘neo’ Elizabethan age… perhaps its just something better left for another 40 years so I can look back and then say I lived in that era.
Of historical significance, I think the one true ER II legacy for me was the repatriation of the British North America Act, that act in itself did more to affirm her role (especially here) as our Queen and notional ‘head-of-state’.

I think the idea of the JSF being called Dave in UK service super cool,I have a son called Dave so it is perfect to me.
Dave-A,B or C in the UK service & the Aardpiglet in Oz service,what a combination:cool: 😎 😎
Sorry I missed your reference re the PR con job.
I am reasonably new at this caper would it be possible to tell me how to get onto the dozens of other forums you mentioned.
My understanding is that the F-35 will be known as ‘Steve’ in Canadian Forces service (in keeping with the bilingual needs of the country) thus Steve at 419 Sqn or Stephan at 433 Sqn.
P.S. sorry about the topic wandering…
… Of course, GosHawk = Goose-Hawk, so the USN trainer is a Goose?…
uhhh no… Goshawk…. no relation to any type of Goose…. medium sized bird of prey (check your bird books – see attached) I’ve got several pairs nesting within 2 Kms of my house….
and, ‘Aardpiglet’? I really like that name! Agreed, the ’22 should have been named Lightning.
Baldrick!!!! I thought you said you’d lost the recipe for that custard!?!
