BIO … my sympathies my friend… a couple perfectly good posts in the thread (and a worthy thread at that, given the pre-orders to date and EADS’ whining about their Canadian exclusion) and everything else goes to pot.
when all else fails, walk away – somethings are better left unanswered. Shaking my head, this one’s starting to look as bad as a few of the south asia related flame jobs.
If someone wants to discuss the ‘birthplace of aviation’, start a separate thread!

One anecdotal bit I can add…
A good friend’s father-in-law was an electrician on the Shack, and he’s always going on about bl**dy this and bl**dy that to work on – especially on the hot aprons in Oman (or Aden – I can’t quite remember – there were Hunters making a ‘bl**dy aweful racket’ as he recalled, further adding to the frustration of the heat)
Well, while not the Forrestal…
I did catch ‘Sinking An Aircraft Carrier’ last night on History Television over here (Canada) – the 1 hr doc on the stripping and sinking of the Oriskany. Not sure if its available on video or not.
It opened up with some very nice colour footage of ‘Skyhawks’ and ‘Crusaders’ trapping and shooting (and one view which included a ‘Destroyer’ on the forward port cat – man that put some sizes into perspective), in addition to some nice construction footage. The producers also included some BW footage of the “Big O’s” tragic fire in ’64.
BTW – Thursday night they are carrying a 3 hr doc entitled “Goering – A Career”

Cheers for that GA, wasn’t too sure how well it would go over without any aviation in the pics.

PARIS (AFX) – Deliveries of the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft being developed by EADS(European Aeronautics Defence and Space Company) are likely to be between 18 and 24 months behind schedule, La Tribune financial daily reported, citing industry sources. …

And they complain (threaten to sue) for being all but eliminated from the Canadian Forces’ requirements?!?!

Hi
contrailjj, yes it’s right. But I have another question,
Does any one know the reason-s,why the aircrafts of so-called “New Iraqi air force” without this traditional triangle insignia,it’s not from Saddam’s regime.it is old insigni from early days Iraqi airforce and representation the map of Iraq.?
Thx in advance
Tango,
I haven’t seen the new Insignia yet (I’ll take a look for it)
As for the loss of the triangle, I’d have to say it’s simply a matter of ignorance. Being that the ‘new’ air force is ‘westernized’ the collective short memory of Iraq’s ‘saviours’ may simply see it as another ‘evil’ icon and discarded it. Remove a despot, erase all icons that can be potentially seen as symbols of that despot. I can’t imagine the new government making that change, considering that even after an attempt at a new flag, the Red/White/Black and 3 stars/God is Great flag has been retained – albeit with Saddam’s handwriting changed to a more commerical script.
This same purging can be seen with the Swastika – a symbol of great significance to many diverse cultures (from Nordic tribes, through Asia to North American Natives) around the world – until one man (and his organization) caused the ‘rest of the world’ to despise and outlaw the symbol.
