Many thanks for that Stringbag.
More cheerfully, and slightly tongue in cheek:
Ten Reasons why the Walrus is more important & fun than the Spitfire.
10 You could take a willing WAAF out on a nice day and land in the Channel to pass the time in the ASR bunk in the back of a Walrus. You can’t in a Spitfire.
Let’s hear it for the Walrus!
Willing? and able!
Ahhhh women in uniform… I do hope it was HER cheek mentioned above was it??

keyboards are built for BOTH hands… the borrow from the old adage… “Type or get off the pot”

Here’s a slightly interesting question… While Barry Wheeler’s book “Aircraft Markings” explains the symbolism of the colours… What is the meaning/significance of the Iraqi AF insignia… what does it represent? It’s been in existance for, well, ‘ages’, but is there a ‘translation’?

Mike,
Very nice! exceptionally nice to see the of Buffalo getting some special treatment somewhere – I still want one of my own.
Now either the lighting is messing things up or she’s been painted wrong, but the Magister (presumably privately owned and simply ‘stored’ at CWH) represents one of the Belgian AF ‘Red Devils’ aerobatic team aircraft, and is – ideally – flag red.
Peter: the Clunk may be headed back to Ottawa as she was only on loan to CWH… but what CAM would do with 3 I have no idea – the former Uplands gate guard is ‘supposed’ to assume a similar position at the museum entrance.
Emerson:
I know we’re on the same side of the pond my friend… just where is another question. I have to admit, the Mitchell is one of the most absolutely gorgeous beasties of all time – my uncle did some time as an RCAF instructor on them in Trenton in the 50s.
Me? I had the experience of a lifetime with a Mitchell last weekend (‘Pacific Prowler’ at Air Show Ottawa) and all I can say is I have an even greater respect for the men who flew them. While not necessarily AAC material (6’2″ and 225 lbs – approx 16 Stone) – I still made the transit from aft, over the bomb bay – right out to the nose (an extra-ordinarilly tight fit! – see attached) and back again during a 20 minute flight. To ride a Mitchell is to experience history… from start-up the shout-down, the sights, sounds and smells, CANNOT be replicated anywhere.
Lest we forget… Per Ardua Ad Astra
That big ol’ Super Hornet does put on a pretty decent show – although I have to admit a certain bias and say they’ve lifted a few moves from the Canadian Forces Hornet demo (the dirty roll has not been in the USN Hornet repertoire for some time)

I’d recommend ’30 Second Over Tokyo’… contains some great footage shot during the run – and some not too bad re-creations – you do have to look beyond some of the ‘hokey’ acting.
Unfortunately I haven’t seen it on DVD yet… even my old VHS copy was purchased from a delete bin about 20 years ago for $2.

Just if anyone wants to know – the pics on the airshow web site are by Jamie Johnson – the web master. (Not me – I’m a different JJ – the poster/program guy)

and now a little more follow up…
here we have another angle on the HIP – sorry, I can’t quite make out the code.
Next the bad news… Serious number trackers take note… Chadian AF C-130 TT-PAF was destroyed on the night of June 11 at Abeche… I will share here only the basic details which I am permitted… This was NOT due to enemy/insurgent action. It was a night-time long-landing/overshoot which went horribly wrong… casualties – yes (all fatal), number (unknown). I will only post this one photo of the wreck.
Today’s submission is this lovely An-12 CUB, also at Abeche… she’s to operate (temporarily I assume) as TT-PAF’s replacement.
nope… initially thought that, then saw the intact airframe, a little cross-referencing with the windscreen shapes and … tada… bugsmasher
nice little collection, I might have to swing by on my next jaunt up to Trenton.
Mike,
the mystery nose section in question is an Expeditor… same as pics 019 and 020… looks like he’s got almost enough for two around there
James
Looks like the time is near – local Ottawa media reporting that the order for 4 C-17s may be announced this week – along with an order for 16 (I believe) Chinooks… finally replacing the long-retired (and sold to KLu) A-models…
Also looks like we’re going to get the C-115 Buffalo replacements this year (C-27 Spartan IMO) and CC-130 Hercules replacement/augmentation (C-130J)
… all totalling close to $10 Billion (also including a 20 year service contract with Boeing) oh, and dare I mention… all untendered – which has the opposition up in arms (interestingly enough they had plans to do the same thing).
wow, first (and best) shot of the the Port side of that PC-9 wreck I’ve seen – amazing the concussive effects of bomb-blast on the airframe.
Here’s the other side… (this may have been posted here before)
MM2000 – those armed PC-7 shots are amazing

Is anyone else curious as to what the C-5B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I/J/K/L are? đŸ˜€
C-5B First delivered in 1986 – incorporated strengthened wing (as used in C-5A rewinging project) and new avionics
C-5C (of which there were 2 – s/n 68-0213 and 68-0216) were converted in the early 1980s for use carrying rocket motors/equipment/satelelites etc in assistance to NASA.
C-5D Lockheed proposal 1995 – non-developmental airlift capability study re-engined with GE CF6-80C2L1F
Unfortunately I don’t believe the ‘M’ stands for anything more mundane than ‘Modernized’
what a sweet, beautiful looking day!! wish I’d been there.
