I spotted this Phantom pic whilst rummaging around the internetworld. Obviously its in flight with its tips folded up!!! Fake??. I do seem to remember an A-7 Corsair or F-8 Crusader being photographed whilst landing with its wing tips up but i think it apparently it took off in that state to test to see if it could still be handled ok if the wings did accidently fold up in flight.

Like to seem someone do that (or try) with the Gannet.

On that particular day of the Cuban crisis, I worked at Brotherhoods, a large engineering Company in Peterborough, and building Money (Notes) printing machines for De La Rue, IIRC it was 3pm, the deadline for the ships to turn away, or else!!. At 2.50. every single machine, or anything that made a noise was shut down, and a whole factory listened to the radio, that was piped through the Tannoy system. no one spoke, it was really spooky. Then, with just seemingly minutes to go, we heard the ships had turned, I saw grown men hug each other and some even cry.
This was a long time ago, and some of the facts I have stated may be a little way out, however, I remember it well.

A particularly “hairy” moment in time, many commentators now believe that it was just sabre rattling, but the facts are that the missile sites were ready in Cuba, missiles were loaded on the Soviet ships heading for Cuba.

Fairly obviously the USA simply would not tolerate nuclear missiles virtually just off the coast, close enough to void any idea of MAD as a deterrent, look up the status of our V bomber force at that time, aircraft dispersed and loaded with live weapons on standby for rapid launch, the threat certainly felt real and as far as most of can tell was real.

Remember Kruschev was not an amiable Russion bear, he was given to some belligerent statements and extremely excitable, one rash move was all it needed at that time.

Just to rub salt in the wound, today it is announced that another 5,000 soldiers are to go, at the same time that Camercon starts muttering about hunting down Islamic fundamentalists and terrorists.

Who is going to do this I wonder?, perhaps volunteers as part of his “Big Society”.

Just proving that most MPs of whatever shade are totally detached from reality, they can have the same rise that they are enthusiastically allotting to everyone else,1%.

For all those quick to express outrage at the thought of denying the genuine disabled their benefits, our gripe is not with the well deserved it is aimed at all those who milk the system ruthlessly and fraudulently. Let’s be quite clear on that.

The problem is that no government of any shade has set out to deal properly with the situation.

Our present gang of tossers are waging a propaganda campaign which attempts to label all benefit claimants as users, the action being a well thought out plan from that arch tactician IDS , let’s just cut every-one’s benefit that way we’ll get the scroungers.

The reality is that it will be much more likely to hit those in real need, the fiddlers are too well versed in all the dodges to get caught so easily, I feel that benefit fiddlers are exactly the same calibre of person as the wealthy tax dodgers, not much progress there either.

That story won’t make the national media, but is absolutely priceless.

Well done that brewery you deserve every success for your kindness.

Somewhere around 1950, a pre-built Frog ‘fighter’, rubber powered. You mounted it in the box to wind up the elastic. It looked a bit like a Supermarine S6 without the floats. I seem to remember that it had an undercarriage and the wings unplugged from the fuselage. Did anyone ever get it to fly?

Mine flew quite well, until I over-wound it with my little handle, then lost grip of it as I was taking it out of the cradle, gave my fingers a severe work out but damage to my little plane was terminal.

Next venture was a Keil Kraft “flying” scale Spitfire, my early attempts were not exactly airworthy, but I did get the hang of it eventually by taking more care and considerably less Balsa Cement.

Sounds like a bit of hush money from Murdoch, although must add News Corp are paying for her lawyers etc, but I believe that should she be found guilty that money will be clawed back, probably from the £11milion.
