Fascinating stuff….. What’s in a name eh?
Hi Ben
The general consensus is – even though no one has actually carried out a proper survey – is that there is nothing in there.
Cheers
Great thread!
Worthy of being a sticky????
What happened regarding the lake windermere(?) sunderland/s rumour from a few years ago(late 1980`s?),was there any truth in it?
I only ask as i never saw any follow up in flypast.Ben.
I had no idea that any parts of the dornier were buried – amazing if this is true. my gf lives a few minutes from victoria – I have always shunned the place, but now being the area so often, I have had many chances to see the scars on the building from the Do 17 incident. Fascinating! if only I had known my gf when they dug up Ray Holmes’ hurribird! (note to lovely gf – obviously i don’t mean that!! :p )
Happy b’day Geoff 😀
I think jets have a perfect right to be warbirds – seems daft to limit it to piston engined aircraft. I’m not sure if i’d go as far as to say that a 2/3 scale replica spit was a warbird… that’s stretching it a little bit.
I’d go along with everyone one else who says that a warbird is an ex-military aircraft.
Cheers!
Thanks guys
Always wondered about the gladiator and the BoB. I am not surprised they had a hard time catching up with the bombers AND being armed with pea shooters, not being able to inflict much damage when they did so 😀
Hi,
The only known combat with a 247 Sqn Glad was on the 6th November. Plt Off R C Winter caught a He111 off Falmouth, but could only claim it as damaged.
Just for the record the last RAF Glad claim was made on the 26th September 1941. Sgt Walter from 6 Squadron intercepted and shot down a SM81 that was attacking Kufra Oasis, near the Egyptian border.
The last Glad claim of WWII occured on the 15th February 1943. Lt Stromberg of the Finnish Air Force shot down a Soviet R-5 recce aircraft near Karkijarvi.

Fantastic pics guys. The halibag is looking really good. Can’t wait to see the finished aircraft! We supplied a small fitting from the nose of a Halifax that had gotten mixed up with Whitley wreckage at a crash site. I can’t quite make it out on the pics but it should be in there somewhere.
I don’t think so… more like made in the USA!
Does “Made in Japan” apply?
I am quite a devotee of the Oscar and have never heard of a problem with the U/C. although i’m not an expert. Sounds more like teething problems associated with the new build to me.
How sad – lets hope they manage to nail the problem soon and are able to cure it easily.
Thanks Flo
I was hoping a wireless boffin would have a pic somewhere…
Cheers!
Not a corruption of Iceland is it?
Could sound a little bit Dutch I suppose…..
I have a reference in a letter to reaching the “coast of Voceland” on returning from a raid with Bomber Command. Can anyone identify this place for me please? I can’t identify the gentleman yet other than to say he was a Navigator with Bomber Command.
Is the name correct? Or Misspelt?
Any help appreciated, thanks.
Kind Regards,

The plate mentions control handles… maybe it’s turret related?
Just had a quick look on eBay and have to say it’s not ringing any Mosquito or Beaufighter bells with me.
Looks like it might be slightly war-ish to me, say 1946-9???
Any idea what this one is from?

Hi – would love to help but cant see any AID stamps or Part # on them – youre right about the extensions to the footrests though – they are hinged and do look like brake pedals…??
Two bods emailled me after the auction ended (why didnt they bid for heavens sake!) who are interested – they are going to send me a one email bid, highest bid wins…seemed fairest – final chance for anyone else interested
(sorry to be so mercenary but they are a friends and he could do with the dosh!)
